We have the magnetic ones and they work well.

Our nanny share house has the ones that loop over the handles and the girls figured them out within a week.

@Sapphiresun: Ha! That's exactly what we do. There are a few cabinets I don't mind him getting in (the Tupperware makes a great you, you're right!) and the rest I don't want him in more for the mess as we moved up anything potentially dangerous. I used a hair tie around those and it's worked, combined with a firm "no", decently enough!

We have the magnetic kind for a few cabinets that the cats are obsessed about getting in to. You can't see they're there, they work great. Planning to add them to the others when we need it for kiddo.

We didn't. From the moment my son was mobile, we told him the kitchen was off limits. It actually worked and he has never opened cabinet doors without being asked to. I hope the same method works for DD!

We have the magnetic ones and they're a PITA to install but work great once they're in. The downside for some people is that you have to drill into the cabinet to install them.

I just tied a hair tie around the two cabinets that have stuff I don't want her to get into, otherwise I just tell her not to touch them, or let her have at it if I'm in the mood to humour cleaning up all my tupperware.

@lawbee11: Yeah ours are really close together-- the ones like Charm and Blackbird posted are too far apart and don't hold ours shut. But the adhesive ones are pretty flexible and you can leave them open when M is asleep.

We installed the magnetic ones too. You can turn them on and off which is really convenient. Other benefits: They are not visible when the cabinets are closed, and they keep the cabinet completely closed so if baby tries to pull them open there is no banging noise or risk of trapped fingers.

The magnet is pretty sensitive so it takes me a minute to get them open. You really have to find precisely the right spot. But we haven't used them very long so I expect to get faster at it.

@sorrycharlie: Luckily she's not tall enough to reach the drawers yet but will get those when the time comes. Thanks for the rec!

@Foodnerd81: We do have some that are side by side but the knobs are pretty far apart so I think the loop ones will look silly. I attached a pic of ours. We also have some that aren't side-by-side (we unfortunately have a lot of cabinets because we also have a built-in in the living room with cabinets). Will check out the adhesive ones. Thanks!

@mrskc: Will look into those. They sound like they could work. Thanks!

@lawbee11: are they side by side cabinets? We have kiscords, which loop around knobs like the ones in your picture. C hasn't really bothered them but if M can already get those open, I think she might figure these out too.

We also have these ones that stick on with adhesive. They work well but we haven't tried removing them to see if the damage the wood. The single cabinets are still un-child proofed. You can use them on single ones in some cases.

lol! my LO figured those out quickly, too. we have a small kitchen. our set of cabinets that have two handles I used two carabiners to hold it shut (she didn't give me time to run to BRU!)

and if you have any drawers, I LOVE these. http://www.target.com/p/safety-1st-adjustable-strap-2-pack/-/A-14061602#prodSlot=medium_1_17&term=safety+1st

I loop them around the side of the cabinet (the drawers are at the end of the counter)

We currently have these, but LO figured out how to unlatch them today. So I guess we're going to have to try something else. What did you use to baby-proof your cabinets?
