charlie's first birthday was at kidville (like gymboree) so there was no theme. we're not doing a bday party for olive, but i kinda want to do something for charlie's 3rd since he knows what a birthday is now. plus olive is going to get 3 mini parties -- one with our friends whose son is 2 days younger than Olive, another one with mr. bee's sister and her family who are visiting this weekend, and then we're doing a cake smash shoot next week. charlie will probably be jealous!

if charlie had a theme for his birthday this year, i think it would be building with blocks. he's obsessed!

I love planning my daughters birthday parties. I think whatever the theme is should either be sentimental or symbolic of their personalities. From an early age my daughter has definitely had her favorites, so it was easy for me. #1 was a very pink princess party, #2 was a backyard sweet mermaid party and #3 was at the zoo and it was a girly princess ballerina monkey theme. Most important thing for a mom is to enjoy the party.

I decided on a Spring theme because she was born in March and didn't really LOVE anything leading up to her 1st birthday.
She's crazy about this one cartoon, so if she continues to love it, I'll make it the theme for her 2nd birthday.
Will probably stop with the themes after her 2nd birthday.
We never had themed parties.

I didn't plan themed parties until DS was old enough to choose. With DD though I've chosen an EXTRA girly "pretty in pink" theme b/c I know that I may only get a few years of her being girly.. I know my sister and I weren't girly until we were grown.

We did a Peter pan party for his first birthday. It is a foundation that will donate $100 to a Childrens hospital if you have guests donate instead of being gifts. His cousin has leukemia and his hospital was what we were fundraising for.

Next year, we will probably again ask for donations instead of gifts but I'm not sure about the theme. Maybe Mickey mouse clubhouse??? All I know is that we are going to have a bounce house. He loves those things and at our friends 3 year old party he held his own.

For the 1st, I decided (owl theme) and for the 2nd, DD really liked these Paul Frank PJs I got her so that became the theme. For the 3rd, I'll just be able to ask her what she wants.

i picked a vintage circus theme for lil' CB's second birthday because i liked the colors (turquoise, red, and white) and we were having the party at a park with a train (and i reeeeeally didn't want to do a train theme), so we did a circus theme with a circus train! :)

for lil' CB's third birthday, i planned to let him pick a theme, but he just said "candy!", so we did a candyland theme :)

We all know that our LO's don't get to pick their first couple of birthday parties because they're just too little to show much interest in things. I've gone to parties where parents picked because it was their LO's favorite TV shows (which I completely don't get, my LO is 14 months and refuses to watch TV), an animal based off of their favorite stuffed animal, etc.

My LO's first birthday was a rose garden theme because her name is Rose, and I'm thinking that her second birthday might be based off of her favorite song Itsy Bitsy Spider. If that's still her favorite song..... we'll see!
