@LaughLines: I did this too when I made one all at once. We've since moved, and I built it out over time, so I didn't really do anything to plan it.

I did the paper on the walls trick. To actually nail the holes I put a dab of blue toothpaste on the little metal hanger on the back of the frame, pressed it on to the paper lined up and then put a nail right under the dab right through the paper

@SweetiePie: The PB ones include paper templates! Makes it super easy! The only tricky thing is that the paper templates are bigger than the actual frames, so you have to keep that in mind when you're laying it out

There are great tips here! We have lived in our house for a few years and I'm barely getting around to doing this lol. I hate to put holes in walls, but I want to finally have photos up. I have photos printed, but where are favorite places for a variety of white frames?

I laid a couple of pieces of packing paper on the floor and taped them together. I then put all the pieces I wanted to hang on it and played around with them until they looked just right. I poked holes where the nails would go, then cleared the art off and hung the blank paper on the wall with tape and put nails in all the holes. Voila! I found this method WAY easier than measuring because my wall had sculptures and other things, not just regularly/symmetrically shaped frames.

@Mrs. Pickle: super easy!

I cut out newspaper to match each size of frames. Then wrote top on it so I knew if it needed to go horizontal or vertical. We just measured the middle of the wall and used that as a starting point. I didn't measure the rest out. I made them close to the same spacing, but I didn't want them all the same distance from each other.

I left the newspaper up for about a week and tweaked it over that week. I am really happy with it. I just need to go buy the rest of the frames so it will be finished.

I built mine up over time, so the arrangement sort of evolved with no planning at all! I say just stick it up willy-nilly and see what happens!

First google gallery wall layouts. This gave me pattern ideas. I then put all the frames on the floor and moved them around until I found a pattern I liked. My pattern had a straight line through the centre so I took my biggest top frame figured out where on the wall I wanted it and made that the centre line. I took a level and drew the line with chalk then marked the frames with chalk on the wall. then it was just a matter of hanging them. It seems more complex than it really is.

i took some spare packing paper i had and flattened it out on the ground in front of the wall where i'd be hanging the pictures.
Then i put the pictures on the paper and arranged them. I made sure all the "big" frames aren't all on the same side and that the vertical and horizontal ones are mixed around and the colors are mixed well (ie: not all the ones with a lot of blue right next to each other).
Once i found an arrangement I liked, i traced each frame on the paper.
Then i taped the paper to the wall.
Then i turned each frame over to the back and measured from the top of the frame to where the nail actually hooks into the frame.
If the nail goes into the frame half an inch from the top of the frame, then I would draw a dot half an inch from the top outline on teh paper on the wall and that's where i'd put the nail. (test this out after trying one to make sure the picture lines up with the outline of the picture and adjust nail placement if necessary)
Then once all the nails are in i tore down the paper and hung the frames

@Mrs. Pickle: I did the same as you - laid it all out on the floor, figured where I wanted the center frame, and then measured everything in relation to the center.

ETA: Oh! Actually, I forgot that I did use paper and taped those up first to ensure I measured everything right. The paper also had a mark for where I wanted to put the hanger for each frame too.

I laid things out on the floor, picked a spot on the wall for the middle piece, and then measured the distance between frames working outward.

Check out Smurfette's method in the summer DIY thread. She used newspaper. It looks much easier.

So, I got a "gallery wall in a box" sort of thing from PB for Christmas (yes, 7 months ago, haha) and id like to finally hang it since we just moved.
I'm clueless as to how to do it! How did you figure out placement, spacing, ensuring its all even, etc? Do I outline with pencil or something?
Was it relatively easy or did it take some time?
Should I hire a handy man to do it since my husband is in no way handy and I'm afraid to mess it up? We are renting so I don't want to bash the walls too much!
I can usually hang things just fine by myself but this seems complicated to me!
