We did a bunch of things all at once about 6-7 months. We sleep trained with CIO for going to sleep, we transitioned from BM to formula, and we amped up the daytime solids.

He began to sleep in longer stretches once we did CIO, and I would let him cry 10-15 minutes if woke up in the MOTN. A lot of the time he'd cry for 7 minutes and fall back to sleep. Within a month he dropped all his feedings and was sleeping 12 hours straight.

We now only have wakeups that are teething related.

I need to work on night weaning our 9 month old. I read the Happy Sleeper and they recommended decreasing the length of time for the MOTN feeds, starting with 5 minutes and going down in intervals (30 seconds or 1 minute, I forget) until you reach 0. But to not feed if it's only been a couple hours since the last feed. So like last night he went to bed at 7pm, then ate at 10pm and 3am and then I let him cry and put himself back to sleep (only took a couple minutes) when he woke back up at 5am, then was up for the day at 6:30am.

We were able to do it by 6 months by letting the bottles get smaller and smaller! First it was 6 oz bottles...and then 4 oz bottles....and then 2 oz....then 1 oz.....and then just a paci.....and she started waking up a little earlier, but that was a trade off for a bit.....and then she just sort of was fine without a night feed. You can always try. If it doesn't work, try again later! Sometimes they eat out of habit, sometimes they need it....*shrug* CIO won't work if they're actually hungry.

We had to remove it completely and let him be upset. It was super rough.

We tried phasing it out by switching the milk for water. He refused the water for awhile, but when he realized all he would get is water, he accepted it and drank the water instead. D'oh!

We did CIO to get her million wakeup's and falling asleep on her own under control. I would go in to feed her after 2. But she then just dropped it on her own.

Let her grow out of it on her own. At 14 months she still wakes up once a night some nights for snuggles and milk. Night weaning won't necessarily mean a permanent end to motn wakings.

We just did this... At 7 months she was waking up 1-1.5 hrs before normal wake-up time for a bottle (4 oz breastmilk). I went to 3 oz for 2 days, then 2 oz. We stayed at 2 oz for a week or so because she seemed less satisfied, but then I just let her cry a little (not a convincing cry - I think she was half-asleep) and she's been sleeping 12 hrs ever since! I was skeptical, but it's been a few weeks now.

We just gradually increased the number of ounces in all of his bottles so that he was getting all his calories during the day. It really didn't happen until he consistently took 5oz per feeding, which happened around 12 weeks (6 feedings, 3-3.5 hours apart). We would get him to take as much as possible at his dreamfeed and then add an ounce to his first morning bottle while reducing an ounce in the MOTN bottle. Then 2-3 days later we'd shift another ounce to the second bottle of the day and so forth. Once the MOTN bottle was like 2oz he started skipping it and pound his morning bottle instead.

Both of mine did it on their own. One between 4-5 months and one between 5-6 months. But even now if DS2 wakes up and doesn't settle quickly, I give him a bottle. He's 11 months.

I would probably wait a little longer. But if I had to choose, I would slowly decrease the amount in each bottle.

I tried decreasing the length of the nursing session. This did not go over well with the baby, who cried on and off for two hours until I gave in and nursed her again. After two nights of this I decided the last morn feeding was easier and just waited for her to drop it on her own, which she did at 9 months.

But really I know people who decreased the time or amount and it worked for them.

LO is 6 months and our Dr says he doesn't really need to eat in the middle of the night now. She said that we can try and drop that MOTN bottle whenever we're ready. We do plan to keep a dream feed at 10:30/11PM. I've read multiple techniques online ... did you use any of these, or some other method? Please elaborate, thanks!
