We put undies on at home without a pull-up and reward her with m&ms for going in the potty. She helps clean up her accidents if she doesn't try to go pee. Poop is a totally separate issue- she absolutely will not poop in the potty except by mistake.

We didn't do any bribes or treats. And as soon as I noticed LO begin a "power struggle" response to sitting on the potty, I stopped pushing it. But we were doing the Oh Crap potty training method, so we did totally bottomless for a long while--5 or 6 days while at home. Then we did commando under a skirt, so it still felt bottomless for a few days, and THEN we did panties later.

When I noticed her struggle against wanting to sit, I just let her have an accident and as she was peeing, I actively picked her up and put her on the potty and just said nicely/firmly that peepee goes in the potty. She learned pretty quickly.

I also tried really hard to be zen about the process and not shame or force her into doing stuff.. I let her just figure out for herself that it feels gross to have pee running down your leg.

Oh and we rewarded actually going with raisins. We made trying part of daily routine and don't let him move on to the next thing till he sits.

We read books. He is obsessed with books. We stopped reading to him regularly when he started saying he had to pee just to get out of a meal and get a book read to him. It worked really well when we were first starting and wanted him to sit long enough to poop.

We would sit next to him on the edge of the bathtub and sing a silly potty song I made up to distract him.

We never had issues with her sitting- she was obsessed and would go try every five minutes. But she wouldn't stay- like I knew she had to go but just couldn't sit still long enough to relax and go. Those times I let her watch a you tube video on her iPod (my old iPhone). It couldn't have been a slippery slope- she is obsessed with watching videos- but luckily she got it after a while and didn't beg for videos. We did m&ms for actually going.

I'm also trying to change up the reward for going. Gummy bears, an episode of a favorite tv show, etc...

We are JUST starting but we do a mini marshmallow if he sits on the toilet. He doesn't even have to go, just sit.

We are a week into training our 3 year old son. He did very well the first couple of days, but it's been touch and go since. At school he refuses to even attempt the potty and holds his poop and pee until he comes home. At home, he'll go pee, but it's hard to get him to even try in the toliet. He's had a few accidents now when we're outside. We reward with skittles when he goes, but getting him to try is a challenge. I usually have to threaten to take a toy away to get anywhere. Any tips for what worked for your LO?
