I have no advice yet. My second child is due in 3 months. I just wanted to chime in that if the double bath doesn't workout maybe shower with your LO after your first child goes to sleep. We still shower with DS at 15 months old because we find it easier, but at that age he fou d it so soothing to be in the shower. We could rock and sway with him in the shower and it really set the tone for bedtime.

My DD is 5 weeks and DS is 3 years. So far, we have been matching DD's bedtime routine to DS's when possible. We give them baths at the same time, DS in the big bathtub or shower and DD in the baby tub, and she sits in on story time. If she's ready to nurse, I nurse her at the same time. DS always goes to bed after stories and DD sometimes does. It has worked pretty well so far.

As for naps, I put DS down for a nap first because he's pretty easy, then I see what DD wants to do, luckily, she's usually ready for a nap then too.

What is really working though is luck! DD is a really easy, sleepy baby compared to DS.

We did double baths! B would go down at 7:30, then I would nurse E (when she was 6 weeks, it took awhile), I would turn off most of the lights and swaddle her, we would finish up the routine around 9pm. The later, the better since she could give us her best sleep stretch if she could go down between 9-10pm. It wasn't until she was 10 weeks that we moved her bed time up.

DS and I would usually have quiet play during her naps.

Our are the same age, which changes things I know, but we do bath and jammies together, then we divide and conquer the final books and good night.

For naps when I'm alone, I take them into one bedroom and get them ready for bed. Then I set up DD in her crib with water, a few books, leave the light on, and tell her I'll be back in a few minutes. Then I read DS a book and put him down in his room. Then I go back to DD (I turn out the light and turn on the noise machine when I get back in there) and read to her and put her down. I've always put them to bed separately and just somehow contained the other in a packnplay. Before this, it was usually a pnp in the living room with a show on.

Good luck!

No advice personally, but my friend has 3 kids. She put number 1 and 2 in the bath tub and put the newborn in the baby tub at the same time. It's kind of fun chaos but it works for them!

Yup, I would bathe them together. DD1 would help me bathe DD2 in the infant tub. It was fun!

DD2 wasn't much of an on the go napper at first so I was always home for naps. I would set DD1 up with her quiet time activities (she doesn't nap anymore) and then I would put DD2 down.

@MamaMoose: We only have 1 tub (our other bathroom is just a shower). That's why I was thinking about trying to get them in the bath together and then divide and conquering. Maybe it's worth a shot!

I have no experience but do you have two tubs? Could you and your hubs divide and conquer?

I've been really wanting to try to get a set bedtime routine going for DD (6 weeks old). We had DS on a basic, loose EASY schedule at around 5 weeks and I remember really liking how it made my day at least a *little* more predictable.

I've been having trouble getting the routine going though. DS' bedtime routine starts at 7 and I give him a bath and change him into PJs and then he rocks/sings songs with DH before going into his crib and going to sleep.

I'd like DD to have a nurse, bath, PJs, songs, bed routine but when do I do it? Before DS goes down? The bathroom is right next to DS' room and I don't want to wake him up giving her a bath right after he goes to bed. Should I have them take a bath together (her in the infant tub and him in the rest of the big tub)? I'm just having trouble figuring it out and having the energy to actually do it.

I'd love to hear how anyone else got this 2 kid bedtime routine going!

ETA: Also, for any SAHMs with 2 or more, what about naps? Did you just set your older one up to be occupied with something else while you put the younger one down? Is she just destined to have to always nap on the go?
