I just had the 1 hour two days ago. My doctor actually has you drink the drink at home, 45 mintues before your appointment. So I drank the drink (it just tasted like a very sugary orange gatorade to me) at home, then had diahrrea (TMI?), then felt fine and drove to the Dr's office by myself. I felt fine for the rest of the night.

Also, my results were great, which was a big relief!! My doctor requires you to do the 3 hour if you have a number of 130 or higher, and I was a 79. YAyyyyyyy.....

I had the one hour and three hour test. The one hour was fine I was just hungry after. Then my numbers came back ONE too high and I had to do the three hour. The three hour was rough in terms of feeling yucky after but once I ate and slept after I was fine. I was fine to drive both times.

I was totally fine. My drink was clear and didn't really taste like anything to me (I'm assuming I didn't have the orange). I got a nice low number and didn't have to have the 3 hour test :)

I've done both the 1 hour and 3 hour versions. The 1 hour was no big deal at all. I felt pretty crappy after the 3 hour, but I was still ok to drive. Once I had some lunch, I felt much better....

@.twist.: I'm equally surprised about the ill feeling afterwards, and would have never thought to bring a snack. Thanks for the heads up ladies!!

@Foodnerd81: My test is similar to yours. I can eat and drink as usual, but I have to down the orange drink 30 minutes prior to my appointment and needs to be consumed within 5 minutes. I just can't eat and drink afterwards until the blood draw.

@lawbee11: again, great post. Thanks!

@Chillybear: I'm doing it at my 28 week appt next month.

I don't have to fast-- I can eat before I take the drink, then I just can't eat or drink after I finish until after my blood draw an hour later. I'll bring a snack with me just in case. I asked about driving after and she said I'd be fine, just maybe a little sugar high.

The people who I know who had had problems had to do the longer faster version, so I think how long you need to fast makes a big difference. I'm planning to drive myself in to the office after mine but leaving myself the option to just go home (either one will be about 20 minutes).

Crazy! I've never heard anything bad about it, just that the drink kinda tastes like the orange drink from McD's!

This is surprising to me! I'm glad I read it so I can bring a snack for afterwards. I've heard the blood draw is minimal compared to others.

I felt gross afterward. For my test, they had you fast. I had an early morning appointment, so drank the stuff down, got the blood draw, and the rest of my appointment. The rest of the appointment was a Rhogam shot and cultures because of later learned yeast and BV infections. By the time I got back to the office, I had a Starbucks spinach feta wrap and felt better. It took until noon to feel completely better.

I felt totally fine. Add me to the 'it was no big deal' people :) My drink was fruit punch I think and it just tasted like some super sweet kid's 'juice.' I felt fine during the wait and fine to drive home. I was my normal amount of lunchtime hungry and came home and made lunch.

@lawbee11: And if it makes you feel better, the test was SO not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be! The drink just tasted like a flat soda (think a flat Orange Crush or flat Sprite), I got it down easy peasy, the hour wait was no big deal, and the blood draw was the least painless one I'd ever had. I felt kind of blah afterward, but with a snack I felt ok and after lunch I was back to normal!

I felt like crap, but eating something immediately after definitely helped. DH drove me home but I crashed hard when I got there, but I tend to crash hard after sugar rushes.

But immediate food helps.

ETA: I would have been okay to drive home, but DH came to all of my appts with me so he drove.

I brought a granola bar afterwards because blood draws make me light headed anyway. They also gave me some juice at the doctor's office before I left to make sure I was okay. I just took my time getting up and leaving. I felt kind of sick from the sugar but I was more than fine to drive home afterwards and it was a 30 minute drive.

My GD test is in a few weeks, and my DH will be out of town the week I am taking it. I was hoping he'd be there to drive me home afterwards in case I felt ill. I am wondering if most of y'all felt fine/ok to drive afterwards? The test is only about 5-10 minutes from my house, so I'll be close. Maybe I should bring something to eat afterwards just in case I feel lightheaded?
