In my opinion as long as the couple is married at the end of the night, the wedding was a success. We were seeing everyone for the first time in a year too as we live overseas, which made it even better. But literally, the moment I opened my eyes the day after, I was hit with the same stomach bug that had meant one if my sisters couldn't come to the wedding and it was horrendous! I'm pretty sure I was floating in the clouds for a month after the wedding! We had been together for 6 years, and engaged for about 1.5 years. Not everything went perfectly according to plan, but it was the best day of my life without a doubt. We got married May 2013, and I was finishing both my master's and my first year of teaching, so I had only focused maybe 10% of my energy on the wedding. I think this helped in me not feeling disappointed when it was over. I also made sure to soak up every second of the day and take many "mental photographs." I still get a little giddy when talking about the wedding! We did most of the planning in two weeks before the wedding and there was some drama (our moms had very different expectations) but also some fun moments. Like the flower lady that chewed us out for going to a "fancy restaurant" but not ordering proper centerpieces (how will you look your grandkids in the eye when they see the photos and there are no centerpieces?!). And DH deciding to have mini address books as favors (we bought up the entire stock of the local 99 cent shops. I wonder what the cashiers thought). And the dancing! It was a second marriage for both of us and neither of us wanted a big wedding. We were married at the court house and my mom planned a small reception (which turned out bigger than she let on it would be). We just wanted to be married. No fuss, no muss.
