@littlecasita1122: @earthling: @Silva: @MamaCate: @Ms. RV: thank you for your responses and words of encouragement.

I was able to take a minute to print a list of providers from the blue shield MHSA website and found a few names from the list my OB gave me. However I will need to call Blue shield tmw for clarification because the website said I need an authorization first. But my OB's office said they weren't able to request an authorization and just to call and see if they are in network. Sigh. I hate calling places, I wish everywhere had a chat with representative or text feature. I barely have a minute to use the restroom in peace let alone make some phone calls.

I found mine through Psychology Today. It was very helpful to see the little blurb that they write about their practice, rather than just going by who takes your insurance. The two therapists I found through insurance were horrible matches for me. I have been with the one I found through Psychology Today for three years.

I have a high deductible plan and pay a negotiated rate of $65. I have unlimited visits.

@iluvboba637: I just wanted to encourage you to reach out and take the first step! Starting with insurance and your list is a great idea. As a clinical social worker myself I wanted to suggest ways to search for a social worker who does therapy:
http://www.helpstartshere.org/find-a-social-worker

I am not in private practice myself but I meet with clients and families who are of course nervous and unsure at first. But you deserve to give it a chance. Good luck!

I'm a therapist and most of my clients find me through my listing on psychology today. You can filter for people who accept your insurance and by specific issue you are looking for help with. Read some profiles. I offer to chat on the phone with people before they set up an initial session- it seems to reduce anxiety a little. If you don't like the person when you meet with them, don't hesitate to try someone new!

Check out the Psychology Today website and search your area. You can filter them by insurance network, then reach out to a few you think you could connect with and confirm coverage/cost.

When my daughter was stillborn in Jan, I asked the hospital social worker to look up local therapists covered under my insurance. I got very lucky with connecting right away with the first one I met with. I saw her weekly for several months and now I go bi-weekly. As a fellow introvert, I highly recommend it as it's the one place I never feel judged. My insurance doesn't have a limit on the number of appts I go to and my copay is $20.

@iluvboba637: I know you can probably do it yourself, but if you're feeling unmotivated, down, overwhelmed, whatever, please wall me. It took me so long to get up the courage to find someone a second time after the first time didn't pan out, and I've been kicking myself for waiting so long. It's such a relief to talk with someone who has no agenda, and is there to help you.

@MaryM: @bluestriped bee: @youboots: @IRunForFun: thank you girls for your responses. I am going to look on the blue shield website when I get a few minutes tonight after the kids go to bed. Hopefully bedtime won't be hell again tonight.

I feel so debilitated from these depressive feelings even though I'm trying so hard to just shake it off. I just don't want to do anything at all besides sleep, or sit in peace and quiet and sip coffee. Help me, If I hear "mommy play" again. Love the kiddo but omg.

I think the entire week of thanksgiving was just the final straw to my already semi-depressed, anxious self. And being introverted I really need time to regenerate from all the people around, but never got that chance.

@2PeasinaPod: thank you so much for your offer of help. You are so generous. I can navigate the insurance website but I just have zero energy/motivation. But I'm going to try tonight.

@iluvboba637: I actually just looked up therapists online and read bios and reviews, marked the ones I liked the sound of who also accepted my insurance, and started making calls. I don't believe there's a limit to how many visits I can have in a week/month/year. It's a $20 copay for every visit.

Head to your insurance website and see if any of her referrals takes your insurance. I would start there. As part of mental health parity, anything in-network has to be the same coverage or better than medical coverage. For example, if a sick visit to your primary is a $15 copay, a therapist visit has to be the same cost or better. It's worth it to go through your insurance. If you need help, wall me and I can do it for you!

I would look up who is covered on your insurance website and compare it to the list of referrals.

I found mine after calling a few people who were covered in town. I've been seeing her for 2 1/2 years- it's been so great.

I know it's work up front but it's worth it.

Through insurance website and some therapists have their own website so you read about them.

Paying for a therapist without insurance coverage could be costly. We had a crisis and needed one asap so we paid for one. It was $150 a session. We only went once and weren't really happy with the therapist so we didn't go back.

Definitely look into your insurance website to make sure they take your insurance.

Oh, like finding friends, you might have to see a couple therapists to find one you are comfortable with.

The first time I did it, I went through my insurance. It was much easier to see who they covered, and then narrow it down based on what their specialties were. Once I found who I wanted, I let my insurance know, and they told me what I would pay per visit (they negotiated the cost) and I could go as often as I needed, but paid that same fee each time (I think I went every 3 weeks?)

My insurance changed the way they do mental health care and now only cover in network providers, but their online portal for finding them is so confusing and not very intuitive or easy to use and I was easily overwhelmed by all the results.

I ended up asking around for recommendations, and found a faith-based network that helped me find a social worker with a similar faith background. And since a lot of my anxiety stems from grief/fertility issues, it made sense to work with someone with the same beliefs.

Insurance isn't covering any part of it, but DH says if it helps, we'll pay whatever it takes.

The hardest part was leading up to the first appointment. I have social anxiety so it was terrible thinking about talking to a stranger about my problems. But once I got over that hump it's gotten better.

It's such a hard place to be in though - to know you need help, but the more you need it, the less you want to actually make it happen.

If you don't want to figure it out through your insurance, do you have an EAP that might be able to help?

If you see, or have seen, a therapist, how did you find her or him? I got a list from my Ob and was told to just call each one to see if she/he accepts my insurance but it is such a pain especially because I've been feeling very down and super lazy but I know I really need to see someone.

Also, if your insurance covers your therapy sessions, would you mind sharing what that coverage is - like how many times a month. I don't want to call my insurance either, but I know I should.
