Olive oil for 15 minutes, then thoroughly wash it, then comb out all the flakes that the olive oil loosens. Repeat as often as needed.

I actually used my nails and lightly loosened the big chunks. It would pull the hair out too, but she wasn't itchy any more and it didn't come back after I did that.

I read somewhere to put on some selsum blue and then cover that with mineral oil (I think) and let that sit for a bit. Then you comb the flakes off while they're softened and then wash. This was the only thing that worked for us.

Burt's Bees thick ointment and let it sit during the bath and brushed while in the tub and rinsed out, then a little bit of Burt's Bees oil massaged into his scalp before bed. It took a good month for it to finally go away!

It was worth it to us to buy the special brush - it was incredibly gentle and yet effective.

@MrsH: we did coconut oil too. I think I put it on shortly before bath and let it soak but just for a few minutes. Then we scrubbed gently with the soft bristle brush that came in her first aid/ grooming kit. Only took a few times. She also had it in her eye brows and it worked there too. We use mustela shampoo that is supposed to help -- not the stelaker one, just their regular-- and we haven't had a problem since the early days.

I've exfoliated a bit with a washcloth during bath time, but otherwise I've pretty much left it alone. It helps that DD has tons of hair, so it's really hard to see, but it's there. Her doctor said some kids have it through toddlerhood but I'm hoping it clears up before that (she's 6 months now).
