Middle and high school (same place) were 1 -1.25 hours on both the bus and subway. It made me never want to have a long commute for work, etc. ever again. So far I've been successful in that. My elementary, middle, and high schools were next to each other, and from my house it was about a 15 minute walk. Unless it was really snowy and blizzardy, we walked. In that case, my mom would give us a ride.
