we used the rock & play at this age and he slept beautifully in it at night. I think he had a touch of reflux and didnt like to lay flat. we cold turkey transitioned out at 4 months and the first night was long, but he was fine after that. well worth it! during the day he sometimes would only sleep in my arms, but i didnt mind....i knew i was going back to work at 12 weeks and took all the daytime snuggles i could get!

At that age, I think we rocked/bounced to sleep, held for a little longer, and then put her down. Or we put her in her swing til she fell asleep and then transferred her to her crib after she had been asleep for awhile. By about 10-12 weeks I think she was falling asleep without rocking on her own in a pnp and we transitioned to her crib at 4.5 months with no issues.

@Bmarch: We started the crib when she was 2-3 weeks old. There was no crying. I would rock her all the way to sleep and then put her down. We did that for a while (she was napping in her swing at the time) until she got better at doing drowsy but awake and soothing.

We did the Rock N Play until he was about 4 months old. At one point, he just got too big for it. Around that same time, we swaddle weaned him too. The RNP was great at 6 weeks because he was so colicky. RNP plus swaddle blankets comforted him enough to sleep for long stretches. We're only now doing CIO at 6.5 months old when all of us feel ready for it.

Thanks everyone for ypur advice! We have tried the rock and play to varying degrees of success. I think I just need to get serious about it and I will definitely be putting your suggestions to use!
@zippyleaf: at what age did you transition to crib? And did you put her down and then pick up after crying and calm her and put down again?
@mrs wagon: what age did you dp this? And what was your process for success?

Just do it as much as she will and she will get used to it. We just started doing it for one nap a day and half the night and over the course of a couple weeks, she started sleeping longer and longer in the crib. We did nighttime first and then did naps.

I had her in a rock n play or the swing for weeks. One night we even lugged the swing upstairs because she wouldn't sleep in anything else... and she STILL didn't sleep. I just let her sleep wherever she would sleep (holding her would be last resort, and honestly that didn't even work best sometimes) and kept trying to put her down in her crib. She did best in the rock n play for a long time, then one day we cold turkey transitioned her to the crib with epic fail... a few days later, she was fine and she has been in the crib ever since!

we didn't have an arm sleeper, but the first month-6 weeks he coslept on couch/newborn lounger (i know i know tsk tsk)....

when we transitioned him (cold turkey) i used a horseshoe towel underneath the pnp mattress sheet and one in the crib, laid him on top (in swaddle) and brought the horseshoe in around him to give him the snug feeling. it helped with transition tremedously and also made swaddle weaning cold turkey that much more effective!

What about a bassinet or bouncer? LO felt comforted by the cupping sensation of the bouncer. We started with letting her sleep in that, and then once she got a little bigger, moved her to the crib.

We have a 6 week old and I think we've created a sleep monster! He won't go down in his crib at all, I think the longest stretch has been 20 mins. I feel like he's too young to CIO, so he gets picked up and basically sleeps on my chest or my husbands. Not ideal, but he'll sleep for 3 plus hours if held. Neither my husband or I are getting much sleep for fear of rolling over on our little guy. I need your advice!!!
