Mine has never taken it, and I never worried too much. Just push other calcium/protein/fat rich foods. There are a million options.

Maybe you can try giving LO other calcium rich food like broccoli or tofu.

@Ree723: A new cup is a good idea! My LO always drinks better if it's a different cup. If we give her the normal sippy in a restaurant she barely drinks, but if they bring her a cup with a straw and lid she drinks it down. Much more fun!

I mixed whole milk with strawberry syrup (you could even make your own) to get DS to drink it. It took almost 2 months for me to gradually wean him from it but now he loves plain milk. I think it's an acquired taste for EBF babies, good luck!

I tried tons of different things with my son. The only thing that worked was goat's milk. He'll gulp it down, but won't touch cow, soy, or almond. Apparently it's closer to breast milk and easier to digest.

We went through the same thing with DS and to this day he doesn't drink milk-- or actually anything but water. He's 2.5 and the pediatrician said honestly it wasn't that big of a deal. She suggested mixing skim milk and also trying almond milk. We tried everything but he just spits it out!

I'm seconding the almond milk idea - it has more calcium than cow's milk anyway! Also just regular almonds, and veggies that are high in calcium might be a good option.

@Ree723: my LO did not like milk at first either and she was also EBF. she did drink a lot of water and that is what we offered her with her solids starting at 6 months. So at 12 months I tried offering a straw cup with milk and she hated it. After trying a few times I eventually filled her straw cup with 90% water and 10% milk and she drank that ok for about a week, then I added a little more milk...and after a month or so she was drinking all milk. It was a slow and steady process. I think at about 50/50 I could have gone straight to all milk but I kept going gradual. She has no problem drinking milk now

@stargal: Frozen yogurt drops are a great idea! I will have to try those! She hasn't had any frozen foods like ice cream or frozen yogurt yet but I'd be willing to bet she will like it. Definitely going to try that! Thanks!

@banana: Almond milk might be worth a shot! Thanks for the suggestion, I will pick some up the next time we go to the store. DH has also just informed me that when he had a glass of chocolate milk last night, he thought it was starting to go off, despite the use by date not being for another three days. I didn't give it the sniff test before giving it to her with dinner, so if it was indeed starting to go off, I can see why she might not have liked it! Oops!

@artbee: True, I wouldn't worry so much if she liked yogurt and cheese but she hates yogurt (spits it out every single time, no matter what I've mixed it with!) and is hit or miss with cheese. Argh, she's not fussy with any other food - only dairy!

@sweet_p: That's great to hear - I'm hoping the more LO has it in her cereal, the more she'll like it. I will try and get her a special cup that is just for milk - she's not quite 14 months so I'm not sure how well she'll get the concept but it's definitely worth trying!

what about sneaking it in like in her oatmeal, making yogurt drops (frozen yogurt droplets)

I had the same issue with my 19 month old when we first switched to cow's milk, but luckily she likes it now and will drink it with no problems. I started giving her milk with cereal and fresh fruit and after awhile, she would ask for more milk in the bowl even though she had eaten all of the cereal. Eventually, I switched to a cup and she drinks it now using a straw.

Have you thought about buying a "special" cup for milk? I ended up buying the Zoli and explained to my LO that it was a special, pretty cup that we bought just for her to drink milk out of. I'm not sure if it will work, but it's worth a shot!

I don't have real advice because I got lucky, my LO loves milk. We switched over cold turkey and she gulps it down like crazy, asking for more. But I always here people say that it's ok as long as they get dairy in other places, like yogurt and cheese.

I was going to suggest sweetening it a little bit (with chocolate syrup) but looks like you already tried that. Have you tried serving it in different temperatures (cold/warm)? Or try something like almond milk? My son LOVES almond milk because it's a little sweet. So we mix it in with regular milk

LO is nearly 14 months and does not like milk. At all. I'm getting a bit worried about her calcium intake as she doesn't like yogurt either and is pretty picky with cheese, although she will eat toasted cheese sandwiches made with mild cheddar without fuss.

I know the standard rule is to mix whole milk with breast milk or formula and gradually increase the whole milk until they are drinking it straight, but LO has never had formula and my supply of frozen BM was long gone by the time she hit a year (I stopped pumping around five months). I wasn't too worried whilst she was still BF'ing but we completely weaned nearly three weeks ago and I still can't get her to drink any milk. I even tried mixing it with a bit of chocolate milk to see if she would take it, but no luck.

So, any advice on how to get a 14 month old to drink whole milk, without mixing it with BM or formula? I'm not opposed to formula in the slightest, but she has never had it and I imagine she will have a similar reaction to it as she has to milk. I do put milk in her morning cereal and will add it to meals when she has thick soups or something along those lines, but I'd really love for her to start drinking it straight.

Thanks!
