We started DS on solids just after 5 months. We're looking to squeeze another solid feeding in the morning, but right now, his day looks like this:

7:30am - 8oz Formula
11:30am - 8oz Formula
3:30pm - 8oz Formula
5:30/6:00pm - 2 Tblsp Cereal mixed with 1/2 jar or container of veggies
8:30pm - 8oz Formula to bed

I think we'd like to get some cereal/fruit in between the 7:30 and 11:30 bottles and start reducing how much he's taking then. He'll be 6 months in a week.

Subscribing to this because I feel like we are still totally haphazard about it and LO is almost 8 months - it is so helpful to read everyone's schedules! But what I came in here to say was, don't get discouraged if your LO is not super interested right away. When we started solids at 6 months, my LO was just not into it and would just take a little nibble here and there. It's only in the past week and a half or so that he's really been excited about his food and has started eating more.

I started with veggie purees and I offered it in the evenings. Then I started sending it in to daycare for breakfast too

In the morning, we give LO a bottle first and then some purees. When we first started, it was only a little and we would wait a couple days before introducing new foods. We never did rice cereal, but do give her fruit and oatmeal.

In the pm, she would have a bottle around 4pm at daycare, and then we would give her more purees around 6pm when we got home from work. Then bath, and a bottle and bed.

During the day, daycare does a morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack and they would give her whatever purees we sent her with, and helped transition her to puffs/regular cereal like Cheerios.

I like this schedule because I always knew she was getting enough milk; since they don’t eat that much for a while.

My LO wasn’t a big fan of purees (she’s a control freak so she doesn’t like being fed, lol) so we moved to soft chunks she could work at feeding herself pretty early on.

Here's what our schedule looked like when we started solids

7am: 6oz bottle
8:30am: food (rice cereal)
10am: 4oz bottle
1pm: 6oz bottle
4pm: 4oz bottle
5:30pm: food
8pm: 6oz bottle

I started with 2Tbsp rice cereal in the morning only for the first two weeks. Then I added 1 jar of Stage 1 Gerber per day, cycling through the fruits & veggies (feeding the same one for 4 days). So we'd give cereal and fruit or veggie in the morning and the remainder of the fruit/veggie at dinner. Sometimes he ate it all, sometimes he didn't. It was more experimental and fun!

We started DS around 5 1/2m. At first we did cereal with his first bottle of the day (at the sitter's house) then after about a week added cereal with his third bottle of the day. Now his approximate schedule is:

6AM: nurse
9AM: cereal, fruit or veggie, 3-4oz BM
12PM: 5-6 oz BM
4PM: cereal, fruit or veggie, 3-4oz BM
6:30PM (or when we eat: 2 of either cereal, fruit, or veggie
7:30PM(bedtime): nurse
10PM: nurse
1AM: nurse

My LO started a couple of weeks ago at 6 mo ths. Right now she's still on 1 meal a day. She has oatmeal and fruit in the morning. We usually send it to daycare. The oatmeal is mixed with breastmilk. She usually eats 2-3oz oatmeal and 1-2 fruit mixed in.

She's a hungry baby though. Your LO may not eat as much. I was shocked she eats as much as she does! We'll probably add in another meal a day in a week or two. Probably a fruit or veggie purée around lunch time.

LO doesn't eat as well on the evening because she's super tired. She just wants to nurse.

We started her with her first puree at 6 months or so. I would breastfeed her when I got home from work and then between 10-30 minutes later, feed her the puree. It just depended on when she was hungry for milk and when dinnertime was (we eat at 5:30). It was stressful at first trying to figure out all the timing logistics but it got easier as we got more into it.

We added "lunch" at about 7.5 months and breakfast shortly thereafter. Avocado is a fun one to offer, just mash it up really well and offer it to her on the spoon. Solids really are fun and get more fun as they get older!

I started with rice (mixed with formula) and made it very runny and slowly started to thicken it up. We did this for about 2 weeks for her to get the feel for the spoon. Then we started to introduce 1 veggie/fruit every 3-4 days so we knew if she was allergic to something. I also added cereal to the veggie/fruit to give her the extra calories (she needed them.) We do just rice before her mid morning bottle and then we do fruit/veggie in the evening before her evening bottle.

@travelgirl1: I started a little cereal about a week ago, and I just added in apple puree last night. I will definitely stick with the apples for a few days! And yeah, it really is fun - she seems to really enjoy it.

I haven't started yet but I went to a workshop with a pediatric nutritionist the other week and they said to wait 3to 4 days before introducing a new food so that any reactions are easy to spot and you can be sure which food was the culprit. Have fun, bet it's so exciting introducing LO to solids!

LO is 6.5 months, and we are starting cereal and purees. I am a little confused at how to time all of this out . . . at what times of the day to serve the solids? This morning, I gave LO some cereal (about 1/2 tbsp w/ formula) about a half hour after she BF. I plan to do that same tonight, only with an apple puree? Is that not enough, too much? Should I do both a starch and fruit/veggie?
