I have a preemie, so I'm extra vigilant. We've only been home for a week, but I won't take him to any indoor public places until flu season is over (zoo, park ok). We are severely limiting visitors. All grandparents have gotten flu and tdap. And everyone knows not to visit if they are even slightly sick.

I'm especially keeping my teacher friends away which makes me sad because all of my friends are teachers (like me), but it's a heck of a lot better than ds getting sick!

I have a late Nov baby. My hubs and I and anyone who wanted to stay with us before she was two months old got flu shots and the TDAP vaccine. We didn't take her out in public much until she was six weeks and we were diligent about hand washing before anyone touches her. And I scrub her hands really well in the bath everyday. She is also exclusively breastfed. She's 14 weeks and never been sick. She's starting day care next Monday and im hoping that between spring coming and her still being breastfed that we can keep her healthy.

- Breastfeed
- Vitamin D drops
- babywearing

Cobi was born in Feb. of last year. I baby wore him constantly in public until summer! That way he wasn't touched by strangers, and anything he came in contact with - I did too! My midwife told me that whatever I come in contact with, my body will build antibodies for my breast milk to give to baby as it assumes he came in contact with it too. How cool is that!!

He hasn't been sick since November this year, and we started him on vit d drops shortly after his fever in Nov.

We actually stayed in most of the winter for lack of not having a car so I'm sure that helped.
Whenever we went grocery shopping, I wiped the cart with sanitizing wipes, and wash his hands when we leave the store.

I'm worried about this too since DS will be born in August and will probably start going to day care in either December or January. I'm nervous how his immune system will react! Our nephew caught the cold/flu when he was a tiny baby and poor thing had to just let it pass since there was no medicine he could take! Seeing the IV's in his tiny little arm was heart breaking.

We and our parents (who would be spending lots of time in close quarters in the early weeks) got the flu and pertussis shots. I also had those shots (mercury-free) toward the end of my pregnancy to give some immunity to LO, though there are conflicting opinions on whether that's a good thing.

We've stayed away from really crowded places like the subway at rush hour, but we went to the farmer's market and grocery store right away and took public transportation at non-peak times. We went for many long walks in the park to get fresh air. At 5 months, LO hasn't been sick yet (knock wood).

We don't have an older LO so I can't help you there. I'm sure that's the biggest risk factor!

I made sure to keep breastfeeding and was diligent about lots of hand santizier and hand washing for anyone that would be touching her. But we went out every day of my maternity leave (Born at the end of November and went back to work in mid-February) and she never got sick once.

I don't have an older LO, but we've just made sure anyone that comes near LO washes their hands. We didn't take him into crowded places like the subway until after he got his shots. Other than that, we haven't really done anything special...maybe we've been lucky, but I've never had a stranger or sick person come near him (and I would stop them if they tried). We make sure he gets lots of fresh air; maybe that helps?

My first LO is a late spring baby and I loved being able to take her out and about early on. Other than good hygiene I didn't worry too much about people visiting and holding her. But I think I'll be a bit more stressed out in late fall when everyone's getting sicknesses. My sister was born around the same time as LO is due and ended up being hospitalized when she was a couple weeks old because she caught a bug.

What precautions did everyone take with their newborn, especially if you have an older LO that will bring home their share of colds?
