@MamaG: I agree. R will tell me she has to pee and I say you do, and then she tells me no pee. I put her on the potty and she will go. She also will say no randomly despite the fact that she does pee when I put her on it. I think she just likes saying no

I don't recommend asking the child if they want to go. Perhaps start with putting her on the potty first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Our daughter is mostly trained and will still tell me no when I know she needs to go.

My son was not showing many signs, but we decided WE were ready. He was 30 months and we trained over one weekend. It went surprisingly well and he was pee trained in one day.

@mamacate - yeah she goes to daycare. Good idea on talking to her teachers, since they have much more experience with this than I do!

Today I started asking her periodically (in the morning and evening when I was home) if she wanted to use the potty and she said NO pretty emphatically. I'll keep asking this week to see if she's interested at all.

May be a good time to try. R kept telling me when she peed/had to pee and I finally put her on the potty and she went. Since then she has been using it though I do still ask and make her go before we leave/before we get back in the car. She was 23 months. However she doesn't do #2 only in the potty yet...sometimes goes when she is sleeping. She cannot pull her undies up or down yet either. I kept her bottomless for the first two days and then moved to a combo of training pants and undies. She calls them both big girl pants. OH! At the beginning to keep her on the potty until she went or if she was reluctant I let her watch minnie mouse. We no longer need to do that though. Good luck!

That might be a good time to do it. How interested is she?

We did 27 months. We probably could have done earlier but DH was out of the country the month prior and I knew I had enough on my plate without adding potty.

We did a 2 1/2 day (instead of 3 day) potty over a long weekend. At that point, LO was:
-going on the potty several times a day at home and at school
-staying dry between changes at school
-talking about wanting to be a big girl and wear underwear like her friend at school

Does she go to daycare? I found her teachers to be a good resource about readiness.

One thing we did as a stop gap when she was interested and I was not ready yet (as DH was gone) was try those gerber training pants for a few hours a day. She did pretty well in them so I felt more confident about pulling out all the stops. Maybe a trial run with those this weekend to help you decide?

I've read the "signs" if they're ready, and DD gets almost all of them (she can't completely pull her pants on/off). But how did you know LO was REALLY ready for potty training?

DD is 25 months, tells me when she's pooped, knows what the potty is for, and can go a few hours without peeing. I was thinking about trying to train her over the 4th of July weekend, but she hasn't told me she wants to train, so I guess I'm not sure she's ready?
