She got to the point where she was fussy every time we put her to bed. We realized she was fussing because she was overtired, and the more tired she was the worse her sleep was. One night I just tried to see what would happen if we put her down early, and she went down amazing! Now, we always put her down around 730 and have the same routine every time, it works like a charm!

If it takes too long to fall asleep, then we'd change the bedtime. For naps, if he's still awake after a half hour, we take him out of the crib and try again in another half hour.

I read her cues. By the time they are cranky, its a little too late, so pay attention to what time he starts getting cranky and aim to get him down just before that. Thats what worked for us. Liv goes down at 6:30-7pm and sleeps until about 6am

DD seemed to settle into a 2-3 hour cycle on her own around 6w. We would put DD in bed around 7 and then I would go in and nurse her before I went to bed at around 10 (she was usually waking up around this time anyways to nurse), she would then sleep until about 1AM. She dropped her 1AM nursing first at about 12w.

the naps became more consistent in length/time of day, and the ideal bedtime just became clear depending on when she woke up from her last nap. at that point olive was taking 4 naps a day, and her bedtime was anywhere between 5:30 - 7:30 depending on when she woke up from her last nap.

For now, Sienna goes to bed around 9ish - wakes up at 3 and up at 6:30 and then up at 9. Before 9ish she does take an hour nap. But for now this works for us. Once she starts sleeping longer stretches, she might do down earlier, but i never forced anything.

I remember Mavrick would go to bed at 11, but was up at 8 the next morning. that was SWEET! (seeing I go to bed late)

@winniebee: I know you know how much of a struggle bed time was for us. It was always 10pm ish on the good nights. Then when she started daycare she came home and fell asleep while nursing. Woke up in 20-30 minutes. Gave her a bath and it was very apparent she was still tired. So I went into the bedroom, closed the curtains & lights, nursed her and she fell asleep. The first time when I placed her in her crib and she did not wake up I was shocked! Then I thought for sure she would wake up soon and not sleep all night. But she slept like a champ.

And we've been doing that ever since. Now she's in her crib between 7:30-8:00 depending on how sleepy she is when she gets home from daycare.

I don't know. LO starts getting sleepy and cranky at 7ish, but won't go to bed until 9 no matter what. We just decided to stick with starting bedtime at 8:30. A 30 minute routine is much more enjoyable than a 2 hour one.

I can't get LO to go to bed before 10pm. He *just* went down. :( I wish he would go to bed at 7 or 8!

We read his cues. Tonight, around 7, he began to get cranky and would rub his eyes. That was when I got him ready for bed. His cues are becoming easier and more obvious to read a little more each week.

I have no idea.. LO used to go to bed around 9-10. Once she started sleeping longer stretches I put her down earlier and earlier until bedtime became 6-7pm. (depending on how her naps go during the day).

At some point, did it become apparent that your LO needed an earlier bedtime (as in, 7 p.m.?) Usually we put DS to bed around the time of his last good feed of the evening that corresponds to something close to our bedtime. How's that for scientific? I can tell that he is getting really cranky in the evenings and last night we tried to put him down at 8:30 but it didn't go well. He ended up going to sleep at 10 (even though he didn't have an extra feeding). Tonight, he was soooo cranky at 7 so I swaddled him (half out) and fed him a good feed and put him in his swing at 7:30 and it's now 9 and I'm wondering if he's going to wake up or if this is the beginning of a long sleep stretch....
