I have had false labor two times before that and so I didn't want to get my hopes up. But by the time the contractions were really regular it was obvious. I had no clue! By 4pm I knew I was in labor but it wasn't painful. Labor was painful by 10pm and excruciating by 4am. I was in bed trying to fall asleep and the first contraction had me wide awake. The second one got me out of bed because they were so much worse for me when I was lying down or sitting.<br /> I read about other women's experiences with early labor and a lot of them described early contractions as more like stronger period cramps. Not the case for me. It was a Sunday and I was already on maternity leave, so I wasn't going anywhere anyway. One of my fears is going into labor while at work and I'm wondering if you can tell right away that you're in labor or if it sort of creeps up on you. :-) </p>
