My grandma let me play around in her kitchen but she didn't teach me much, just let me experiment. I actually was cooking dinners by the time I was 8.</p> <p>I stopped cooking in my early 20s/single days because it was a pain to cook for just me. In HS, I basicallyw asn't allowed to leave the house to hang out with friends until dinner was on the table! :P dwenjangook was my GOTO dinner soup! But when i was in university, my mom hired someone to give me private Korean cooking lessons. She comes from a family of good cooks.</p> <p>She has a repertoire of things that she knows how to do very well and I was always around in the kitchen, so I learned what to do. She was a work outside the home mom, so once my sister and I knew how to do it, we could prep stuff when we got home from school or before school in the morning. Being around great food and ingredients got me interested in food from an early age, and I just experimented from there. </p> <p>I am generally pretty creative and have a good sense of what types of things go together, so I cook "from scratch" a lot. I also LOVE Pinerest - I Pin recipes all the time and then tweak them a bit. No real tips, though. I just kept trying and following recipes and eventually something just clicked and it became very instinctual.
