I didn't learn English until I went to school. I remember not understanding anything the teacher said in kindergarten. That entire year was pretty much a blur. My next memory was in first grade when I can speak, read and write.</p> <p>@Arden: I just got this book recently. I'm glad to hear it works. The way I was trying to teach before was not working. Loved it and was in the top reading group. It's probaby why I'm not in a hurry to "teach" LO how to read or colors or other stuff. Phonics does nothing for me. You could try teaching the First 100 Fry Sight Words as whole words. My parents read to me quite a bit and they had a super big (think street sign) flashcard system. I don't remember using this just finding it under my bed. He'd have me read books to him and have me attempt to sound out the words based on the letters.
