Are you wanting to sell small items or bigger items?

I would put bigger stuff on Craig's List and then gather up all your small things as you're packing and put those in a corner of your garage/home. You can have your yard sale perhaps a 1-2 weeks before the move depending on how ready you are. That way you don't need to worry about randoms coming to your home since you'll be moving out.

Before DH moved in we did something similar at his place. We took photos of the larger items he wasn't going to move, and put them in the craigslist yard sale ad. then if people were interested, like @Mamaof2: we took them inside to see them. then we ended up being contacted by a women's shelter afterward who offered to take some of the stuff that didn't sell (like older couches)

We had just a regular yard sale when we moved years ago - we put all the smaller stuff outside and then for the large items (beds, couch, entertainment center, etc) we took pictures and put them in a binder and set that out - if someone was interested we took them inside to see it in person.

It was the best yard sale of my life - we made about $700!

Take pictures and list on Craigslist? I see a lot of those when I browse :)

We are moving end of July into a rental. Not as much space as our current place so we will have to store. I would like to have a moving sale but I am not sure how to coordinate that alongside the move. Our current place is much more centrally located for a garage sale so I don't think it is an option to wait and have the sale at our new place. Plus I go back to work in August and want to be done with moving once we've moved so I am eager to do it all now rather than string it out.
