Can you do the reverse - put pull-ups OVER the underwear? That way he definitely feels it when he has an accident and he is motivated to stay dry and clean, but if he has an accident the pull-up catches it.

constantly taking them, not forcing them and watching their cues. i wish we had gone more full force when DD1 showed readiness at 22 months, but we did a slower pace and lots of diapers and i think we missed a window for a while. :/

I just took away the diapers, had them go pants less and kept a little potty that they could access and use by themselves. Both my kids were right around their 2nd birthday and my oldest really wasn't talking at all so I had to take him to the bathroom frequently when we were out.

We did OCPT at 23 months over Christmas break and she was pretty much trained in 2-3 days with minimal accidents. We did have a regression when her 2 yo molars were coming in about a month or month and a half later. She wasn't trying on the potty before, but I could tell that she could hold her pee because she'd be dry for a while and then do the "pee shiver" and be wet, haha.

I potty trained an 18 month girl of who i nannied, she was super interested in it and a pretty good communicator. But mostly it was on me to make sure she went regularly and to set her up to succeed.

My 21 month old pees in the potty a few times a day, either when he asks or when I ask. This morning he asked to poop on the potty when I was changing his diaper. We are both pretty tired of poopie diapers... I hope it happens soon but dont want to push it and it's so cold outside right now.

We did the 3 day method at 24 months and kept her pants free when at home and she would just run to use the little potty when she had to go. When we were out and about I would just keep an eye on the clock and take her regularly and within a few weeks she would come running to me if she had to use the potty. But if we were at a play date or at a fun activity I would have to keep an eye on things bc she would be so distracted by playing. It worked great though and had minimal accidents. She went to a 2s class at that age and they would take them to use the potty at the start and middle of class and we'd go before leaving too

Took his pants off and brought a little potty out into the living room for the weekend. We let him drink juice and watch tv with the potty next to Him. Then on Monday he wore pants with no underwear. It was that easy.

We've just begun teaching DS2 about the potty (18 mos). Mostly, we put him on it once or twice a day for a couple minutes, just to get him used to the routine of what to do. Eventually, he'll get the idea.

We did Elimination Communication from under a year old and just put her on the potty regularly, making a pssst noise. Every morning and then every few hours. She also took stickers when she was 1+ :)

We used the Oh Crap method for our 25 month old and she was trained within a week. We still had to keep an eye on the clock and request that she use the potty every 2-3 hours though to ensure no accidents (still do at 3.5 years old now).

I was super laid back and followed her lead. So we had periods of doing great for a few weeks and then lots and lots of accidents once she realized that it wasn't always an emergency. I really didn't do anything. If we were having accidents every single time for a few days we would wear a pull up for a day or two until she said she wanted underwear again. Overall it's taken about 9 months for me to feel super confident in her abilities, but it took almost no real effort from me except a few reminders in the beginning. That being said, once she pooped in the potty the first time, she never did it in her pants ever again, so i never had to deal with anything more than pee. Good luck! :goodluck:

We potty trained at 25 months, although our oldest is super verbal. We did Oh Crap PT and did no pants in our playroom for several days and watched him like a hawk.

DD is currently day potty training. She will be 2 at the end of the month. We've been training her for about a couple months now. She's somewhat verbal but when she needs to pee/poop she signs it and then goes to the potty to do her business. When we started training her in the summer we just let her run around bottomless and would put her on the potty every hour or so. If she had an accident we didn't make a big deal of it and just reminded her to use the potty.

@LilSprinkles: Mine does use sentences too - but I guess I think of him as so young still! He'll say "I go potty too!" or "I go pee pee big potty" or "i poop". He doesn't typically ask to poop on the potty though!

We did the three day method... over about two weeks. We basically just took away diapers and kept him in the kitchen for three days. We gave him lots to drink and read books while sitting on a little potty a lot until it finally started to click. He figured it out pretty quickly but was very inconsistent for a long time (hence the two weeks). I liked it better than cloth diapers though, so we just kept going and just dealt with accidents as they came.

He was NOT very verbal, but his receptive language was very good so it worked. Now a year later he is day and night trained (although we often have to wake him for a night pee) and really good about initiating.

ETA: potty training at that age was more a matter of just remembering to tell him to go all. the. time. because he just wouldn't initiate. The initiating came with time.

We trained around that age. We decided to use the summer months to slowly start as he would be outside and naked/hardly dressed alot.
We showed him the potty and then would ask if he had to go and repeat that potty was for peepee and poopoo.
Came September, so he was 23 months, we started by not putting him in nappies but underwear (nappies still for sleeping and traveling).
We had some accidents. But he was able to more or less tell us when he had to go. We would also ask him very often and put him on the potty if there hadn't been any action for a while.
Number two went rather easy too.
His nappies were often dry after naps and in the morning. So after a while, we didn't use any for naps.
And one day he said he didn't want nappies any more for sleeping at night, I was reluctant at first but he insisted and has only had 3 or 4 accidents since. 2 in the first few nights!

All in all it was very gradual and easy. I was very apprehensive but I was very surprised at how easy it's been! (Fingers crossed it stays like this)

DS had just turned 2 when we potty trained him. We used our own modified version of the 3 day boot camp with DS, and it worked wonders. He was trained within a few hours. He had excellent communication skills then (was speaking in complete sentences). so I'm pretty sure that helped.

DS2 has been showing the readiness signs for a few months - goes on the potty several times a day, can pull his pants up and down, and can stay dry if we are vigilant about using the potty. He now is demanding to wear underwear over his diaper. His teachers think he is ready! I have no idea how to train a young toddler, though. He just turned 2 and we didn't train DS1 until he was nearly 3. He can communicate well, but I'm just not sure if it's well enough to avoid accidents.
