Lord. Clearly I'm not meant to be one of those parents who speak in months because I can't do math. She's 28 months lol. 2 years 4 months :P

My personal theory is that the longer you put it off because you think your child isn't ready, the harder it is. When they're newly two, they aren't as willful as when they're, say, almost three. I would encourage you to jump in head first and get it over with!

We introduced a potty at 19 months. She would go pee here and there. At 26 months I took 3 days and dove in 100%, and by day 3 she was totally trained.

@sorrycharlie: ugh yes! we have carpet in all of the main rooms-- living, both kids' bedrooms, hallways, etc. So I'm scared to take the plunge!

Char is, gosh, 30 months-- and I think she is ready, but we aren't! We always have one thing going on during the weekend, so I don't want to do it when we're out. I guess I should just choose a weekend and get it over with. I was thinking this weekend, because we'll be home (hubs is getting snipped, so we have no plans to go anywhere), but I don't know if it'll be manageable to PT her, take care of our 8 month old, and switch out his bag of frozen peas all at the same time.

I have been trying since she was 18 months but she is no where near ready. She runs to a hiding place now to poop in her diaper away from me. We bought some Frozen themed underwear yesterday so we're going to try it again now at 20 months.

My advice is not to do it. :silly:

Diapers are SO MUCH EASIER, but if you think she's ready, and you're ready, go for it! Once Sadie became interested in the potty I started letting her watch me pee. We also started reading potty books and watching videos.

We just jumped in with the help of our daycare. LO was showing signs of knowing when he was pooping, etc. With the daycare and us, we put him in undies and pottied him every 30 minutes to start. As all of us got used to it, he had more time in between sessions. We had accidents, but they've become rarer. We started with day training at 25 months old and have been doing potty since September. It was a nice built in plus when he switched to a preschool environment. He was prepared for it and didn't need diapers.

@QBbride: yea, I intend to ask daycare her thoughts. He hates having his diaper changed so if we could figure it out, I think he'd like it better.

@jetsa: I'm in the same boat as you!! I want to encourage it if he's excited about it and I would hate to miss the opportunity but then I also feel like he'll regress when LO2 comes, so why bother? I think I will just follow his lead and see what happens. In the toddler room at daycare they offer them the potty when they change their diaper, so maybe I'll ask their insight too.

@QBbride: this is exactly where we are at, he's really fascinated by it but he doesn't tell us if he needs to use the bathroom yet. I wonder if we should wait for that or just jump in, I had zero intention of trying to do this before LO2 but he is so into it right now I don't want to miss my opportunity either.

We are doing the slow and lots of practice approach. I'm in no rush. DD is 25 months and she started using the potty before bath when she was 21 months. The past few months she's been using the potty more and more and sometimes even tells us before she needs to go pee and poop. I think she's ready but I'm just not ready to take the plunge and commit. Our pediatrician just said to do it. Put her in underwear and see. If she has too many accidents that means she's not ready and try again another time. I just bought big girl underwear but still too scared to try. Haha. My goal is to try within the next few months. I definitely want her potty trained before baby 2 arrives in July!

she showed quite a bit of interest, so over the long Thanksgiving break we went for it and did the 3 day potty training bootcamp, she's been potty trained since. We had a slight hiccup last month (behavioral) but she's back on track. We still do pull-ups at night time and nap time but otherwise she's fulltime panties.

DD started showing signs of readiness at around 20 months. DS was about to pop out so we waited until he was 3 months old and DD was 2 weeks shy of her 2nd bday. We just picked a week and did it!
By the start of day 2 she was prancing around bottomless and running to the potty whenever she had to go #1 and #2!

At 25 months, DS is showing signs of readiness, so we're gonna train him next month!

We're not potty training yet but DS (19 months) is really fascinated by the potty and will sometimes ask to sit on it (and pee on it!) I just encourage him when he wants to and ask if he wants to sit on it before his bath. No pressure though!

I'm too afraid to jump! With the newborn, the wall to wall carpeting, and the fact that it's pretty consistently "feels like" below 0 here  lol!

We just jumped. There really were no times she had gone on the potty at all before we tried. I knew she was ready though and after a few accidents that was that! It was way easier than I expected. She may surprise you and just get it.

I definitely think the sticker chart and an m&m after going to the potty helped. She forgot about the m&ms after about a day so I didn't feel too bad using candy as incentive

He's been showing signs for a while. I've been putting it off. We're moving him to a twin bed in the coming weeks, so once we get through that transition, we're planning on taking a long weekend and diving in!

He's done random sessions on the potty, has had some time before bath time running around in his underwear, etc. We've been mentally prepping right now more than anything!

we aren't in a rush, just starting to explore it. DD is just 26 months. she still doesn't tell me when she goes all the time - and when she does she sometimes mixes them up (says she pooped when she tooted, etc). I've had her casually sit on her potty before her shower but nada.

how did you start? or did you just jump in? not ready for that yet!
