Honestly? I didn't. Our school only offered the ACTs but after research I thought my SAT score would be better since it eliminated the science and had more writing/vocab focus, so I drove to a Chicago suburb to take the SAT. It was worth it, my SAT was a higher equivalency than my ACT and it resulted in more academic scholarship $. I was happy with my score.

I didn't really study.. tried to take a couple practice tests, but I can't force myself to do something when it's not for real and won't count. I did pretty bad on the English part, as expected, I hated all classes English/History and reading - I think 580 and did well on math - 720, which is all I cared about. I remember being pretty upset I didn't get a perfect score on math.

I took the PSATs when I was in 10th grade because it was required for honor students. I scored high enough to be a National Merit Scholar (or something like that).

Then when the real SATs came around, I didn't study at all and got 100 points away from a perfect score.

I just chalk it up to being a good test taker.

I didn't...and scored above average. I knew I wanted a state school or regional liberal arts college so i called it good enough.

Now my DH and all of his friends took the SAT the day after Homecoming...they were probably still drunk. Not the best scheduling on anyone's part.

@MrsBrewer I was born and raised in Hayward, WI (Northwestern WI). I went to college at UW-Eau Claire and lived there for awhile and then moved to Beloit for a year and a half before heading west to Colorado. I meet sooooo many people here in Colorado who are from WI though- lots of packer flags in our neighborhood!

SAT day was crazy. We had our regional cross country meet and then the homecoming dance the same day. They had to move the regionals later in the day since it was SAT day and it was a really hot day. I'm not sure if it was the heat or being starving after taking a test and eating too close to running or food poisoning but every girl on our team but one puked after the race. I almost puked on the principal, we had won so she came over to congratulate and I had to run off to the bathroom, just got to the sink before it all came out.

I wish I had studied more, i did fine but I didn't realize people took classes and studied for it, I thought it was just something you took based off of what you'd learned in school.

Wow, some smarties here! I took 1 or 2 prep classes and think I got a 1390 on my SATs which I was satisfied with (but my parents weren't, of course).

Funny story about the ACTs... our guidance counselor called us individually to his office and handed out the result sheets. I went to his office, he handed me my results and congratulated me on scoring a 33 (out of 36). I was ecstatic! Until I showed the sheet to my best friend in the lunch room, and she said,

"Uhhhmm, your name isn't Melodie......."

AGHHH, DAMNIT!! Melodie and I are both Asian, and have rhyming last names that start with an "L". Apparently that was too confusing for my poor guidance counselor. Sadly, I only scored a 29, haha.

I only took the PSAT when my school forced me to sophomore and junior year. What really helped me was going through that book of SATs from past years and taking real tests to understand their pattern of questions. I also took a course that got me to see the types of questions instead of worrying about memorizing material, which helped in getting a 1530 and then an 800 in writing.

Gosh, I don't really remember. I know I took the PSATs and I had the prep books and probably took practice tests. No flashcards, I don't think. No classes.

I was totally satisfied. I got a 1290 but I scored a 790 on verbal (this was back when it was just 800 and 800) and bombed on math. I was expecting that and was applying to journalism school and taking SAT II subject tests in writing and literature and AP tests, so I wasn't concerned about the math portion of my score.

ETA @mrbee your comment about being a loser made me laugh out loud! I used to -- and still love -- taking practice tests and quizzes and filling out forms, I used to fill out college applications for fun when I was like a freshman in college. How's that for a loser?

Haha, I also took the PSATs in 7th grade and loved it as a standardized testing nerd :) I had a math tutor to brush up on all those SAT math skills and I did a basic Princeton Review course that was held at my HS. I don't think I got too much out of that but the math tutor helped. Other than that I didn't do too much studying on my own time and I did well. I got a perfect score on verbal and close enough to perfect on math. I was happy with my scores.

I'm a good test taker and did the PSATs twice and had a book that I flipped through once. I regret not taking my SATs more than once. At the time I was happy enough with my score as it was above the range needed for all of my target schools, but looking back I wish I had taken it again to get 10 more points. I got a 1490 and would have liked to have gotten an even 1500.

i was a terrible student! i didn't study. my bff & i went to a party the night before, came home at like 3am & had to go take our SATs at 7ish. we were both hungover & possibly still slightly drunk. i got an 1100 something, so yeah, i should have studied, slept, and been sober or retaken them! not my proudest admission =/
