Just putting small amounts in at a time at first. Honestly, LO's best teacher had been church. There is a snack time in her class and they get water in those little paper cups you would normally use in a bathroom to rinse your mouth out with. She figured it out quickly.

I agree with @Freckles:, try using a shot glass at first.

We started with shot glasses when we were trying to get her to drink milk. I think we started around 13 months.

I recommend putting small amounts in the cup, as opposed to filling it to the top. Less spills that way!

DD loves to drink from my glass, so she learned the concept pretty early. In terms of giving her her own glass to drink from, I would start with just a little bit of water and practice, practice, practice. Also, there are many good stainless steel straw cups out there you may want to try while you are practicing with a real cup.

(FWIW, I think all the plastic drama is way over-hyped. The amount of disgusting chemicals that were in the plastics we were raised on is a thousand times worse than the BPA-free stuff you buy today. And don't even get me started on things like cell phones.)

After all the new stuff that's come out about plastic, I'm newly motivated to teach LO how to drink from a real glass. I'm going to get some of those small tempered glass tumblers, and was wondering how you have gone about teaching your LO to drink from a glass. LO is 16 months old, and while he drinks very well from a straw cup, he has never tried an open glass before. He also really likes throwing his straw cups on the ground. Any tips welcome!!
