He wrote back that he was at the airport and would be back on Wed, did I need him to call and talk? I wrote back and said no it can wait till he gets back in the office and that I wasn't quitting. He wrote back, ok thanks, I was afraid that was what it was. So when he got back, I just told him, I am not quitting, but I am going to need some time off cause I am pregnant. He has no idea, and was super happy. I was nervous telling him since I got moved to his department a month before and he has no kids. At the conclusion of the meeting, my boss always ask "anything else?" I said one more thing, I'm pregnant and am due August 12th. He congratulated me and that was that. I plan on setting up a meeting with HR beginning of June to get a complete understanding of my benefits (FMLA, STD, etc.) then compiling all my information (work schedule, work load, etc.) to present to my boss at the following one-on-one meeting. I want him to know I'm prepared and won't let him down just because I'll be out. I've been showing this also with my various doctor appointments and CPE events that even though I'm not at work, I'm still productive and "reachable". My office is small, there are only three of us, all women. I told her that I had gotten some good news, that my citizenship had finally come through and that in addition to becoming a Canadian I'd also be having a Canadian. As soon as I said so, she claimed that she already knew and had spoken with her husband about how to handle my leave the weekend prior. I told her my due date, how far along I am, and that was about it. Afterwards, we talked very briefly about coverage and me putting together a list of what I know will be going on around that time, but mostly she was just excited for me. I'm the 4 person on my team to have a baby in less than 4 years, so we are getting to be pros at it.<br /> I did not mention anything about a time frame for me coming back-- I am pretty sure I won't be but I'm leaving that option open, and I don't think she is actually allowed to ask. So, when I was having issues with my first pregnancy, I just told him that I was pregnant, but that I needed a good amount of time b/c of issues we were having. I ended up losing that pregnancy, and he was so understanding. </p> <p>The next time around, I told him early again so that he wouldn't question why I was taking time off. Everything turned out well, and I didn't tell the rest of the office until I was 14 weeks. </p> <p>I just sort of went in and said that I was going to need a bit of flexibility on his part b/c I was expecting and he got really excited for me!
