@Ash: We are in night 6 of transitioning our 18 month old from cosleeping to full crib. The first 3 nights were the hardest. The first night was really the worst with about 4-5 hrs of crying total from 7:30pm-6am. We just had to keep remembering that it wouldn't be this way every night.

First night, I breastfeed her, then cuddled and rocked her. Put down in crib. Sit on floor until asleep. Try to sneak out of room, she of course woke up and so we let her cry for 5 minutes. Go in and pick up, rock and cuddle. Put down, sit and try to leave.

It was this endless progress but now by night 6, she will cry for two minutes after the first cuddle session and then fall asleep for like 6-8 hrs, cry again, put herself to sleep and finally wake up around 7am.

I think the thing is to be consistent in whatever you choose to do and just do that each night so LO picks up the new routine. Good luck and remember after the first night it can only get better and less crying.

We moved dd to a floor bed in room right after her first birthday. One of us still ends up sleeping with her part of the night, but it's nice being able to read in our bed, not have to tiptoe around, etc. Sometimes DH joins her by 11:00 (he goes in for early wakeups bc we are trying to slowly night wean), but sometimes she sleeps in there alone until 3 or 4.

We tried it for a nap a few times, in case he melted down we figured a missed nap wasn't so bad. Then just put him down in crib in nursery instead of co-sleeper one night. He didn't seem to notice or mind the difference. I was more impacted the first few nights (kept waking up nervous) but in the long run everyone is sleeping much better.

we waited until she was older (14 months) and she slept in a floor bed in our room for the two months prior. we just put the mattress in the crib and put her in there one night, and she went to sleep right away and has been sleeping through the night since - no tears, no CIO, just sleep.

At six months we decided it was time for her to sleep in her own bed/room. So we picked a Friday night (I think) so that if she gave us trouble, we could nap the next day and not worry about work. She went down pretty easy. We just did her normal bed routine. There was one extra wake-up, but within two days it was like she had always slept in that crib. I was definitely nervous tho beforehand!

We just decided to put her in her crib in her own room one night around 4 months. There were no issues, she slept the same as she did when she was in our room. Same night wakings, easily went back down, etc.
