I think I'm going to ask for a referral to a GI when we see his ped this week. LO has been on the Zantac 5 weeks now and increasing the dose again isn't going to help anymore. Plus they noticed during the surgery that he had congestion in his lungs from the reflux, and his ENT warned us that with his hearing loss any ear infections would put him at risk of losing all of his remaining hearing and he'd have to get tubes if he got an infection. So I just don't want to take any chances of this going on!

I was just about to come on here and ask the same question! We switched my daughter to nexium after zantac didn't seem to be working. She's been on it for 2 weeks, but still seems to be having trouble. I think we are going to call her ped tomorrow and get a GI specialist referral. Sooo I would look into switching meds if I were you and maybe also seeing a specialist? Poor babies, reflux is the worst!! I hate it for them. Hope your LO feels better soon.

We got a pedi GI referral and she switched M to Prilosec (Zantac didn't help her). Much better!

I would also definitely ask for a GI referral. And yes to frequent small bottles and trying another medication. I'm not sure what it's called or whether it's okay for very young babies (super helpful, I know :) ), but there's another medication that helps the digestive tract move the food through a little faster so that there's less for the baby to vomit.

When Matt was projectile vomiting every feed we ended up on Prevacid and Neocate. Helped tremendously. Maybe it's time for a GI?

@MrsKoala: I guess that's the next step, because Zantac doesn't even treat the reflux, it just makes it less acidic when it comes back up.

We started on Prilosec and then switched to Prevacid which he was on for almost a year and a half. All of the meds work a little bit differently so I'd definitely ask for another one. My LO had severe silent reflux, do vomiting was rare but happened more often if he was moving while eating (like in a car) or if we tried to feed him too much. He was much happier eating 2-3 ounces every 2.5 hours for the first few months. Larger volume meals were a problem.

We used the rock and play until he outgrew it, then elevated his crib until maybe 8 or 9 months.

We also elevated for all feedings and kept him upright for a half an hour, no rocking or anything.

Reflux can be really stressful! Let me know if I can help in any way.

Our first med didn't work for LO and we also had frequent projectile spit up. Have you talked to the ped about switching to a different medicine?

Prilosec would have been the next med choice for us....but otherwise I'm not sure :(

We're back from the ER after LO spent the day projectile vomiting. Apparently his ped wanted him to get checked out since he had surgery recently but it turned out to be most likely his reflux continuing to get worse.

We've increased his Zantac dosage a few weeks ago (didn't help), tried putting everything on an incline, are burping him often (when we can get a burp), having him sitting up for meals, and elevate him for a good half hour after feedings. He's been on Alimentum for at least a month now. Is there anything else I can ask for when we see the dr?

ETA: They did an ultrasound to check for pyloric stenosis; it wasn't that.
