I was mostly worried about him falling out since we didn't use rails. He did the first two nights (but I had put his old crib mattress on the floor) and after that he never has and it has been almost a year at this point! Was your DD difficult before the bed transition? Have you figured our why she gets so upset? LO started climbing out at 19 months so we put her on a twin mattress on the floor. The first 2-3 weeks were pretty tough, BUT I also think she was going through the 18 month regression or something at the same time. We are about a month in now and things are much better, but I do still need to lay next to her in order for her to fall asleep, which is taking 15-30 minutes now, as opposed to the 1-2 hours it was taking a few weeks ago! She wakes up sometimes during the night and needs me to lay down with her, especially early morning (4-5am) but she goes back to sleep within seconds. As much as I would love to be able to just put her in her bed and walk out, and have her fall asleep on her own, I don't mind the extra cuddles for now :silly: So, I would say harder than expected, but now it's not that bad. At 25 months we put a twin mattress on the floor of his room - nothing else / no other furniture besides the crib and mattress in the room. We explained the big boy bed and he wanted to sleep in it. We let him roam the room but if he came out we told him "it's bedtime, if you come out again you'll have to sleep in the crib." After 2 or 3 follow throughs (nap or bed time) he's been a champ. Time to move the crib out of the room and maybe put his dressers in. We have a video monitor on the wall so we can watch him. We have the same bedtime routine as you and we stuck to that and he stays in bed all night (most nights, he's only gotten up and came to the door 2 times). Her sleep had always been crap and we transitioned at 20 M as a last minute desperation. Her sleep has never been better since. It's been about 2 weeks since we've removed a side of the crib and put up crib rails, and the transition has been as challenging as expected. Our LO (2.5 years) has always fought bedtime, but now it's just awful - she cries, bangs on the doors, yells, etc. Our typical bedtime routine is: wash up (bath, teeth), change into PJs, read at least 5-6 books (I give her warnings after each book about how many more are remaining so that she doesn't freak out when it's the "last book" all of a sudden), and sing 5 songs. Whole process takes at least 45 minutes. She's fine and happy throughout the process, BUT as soon as I say, "OK, last song," that's when the tears/screaming begins. I don't know what to do anymore. I've tried holding her until she falls asleep - she's pretty tired so she will fall asleep within 5-10 minutes of me holding her, but she will wake up and cry as soon as I try to put her down in bed. If I leave, she'll run to the door and start crying. UGH. I'm dreading bedtime so much now. :( I thought it was bad when she was a baby, but now I'm realizing that it's so much worse since she can run/talk/communicate :( Any advice? ETA: She *does* fall asleep in her bed after I leave. It usually only takes her about 5 minutes to stop crying, crawl into bed, and fall sleep. I just hate the 5 minutes while she's crying...
