Same issue here... We have a 3 bedroom 1 bath. Currently we use 1 as our bedroom, 1 as office, 1 as spare room. Before Baby #1 I'd like to add on to the back and put a den, breakfast nook and 1/2 bath, Finish the basement and move the office down there. I don't want to give up the spare room for Baby #2 (my parents don't live very close) so maybe move before #2.

@AmeliaBedelia: Yeah, my husband and I have talked about adding on, we have a small backyard and so we would have to go up but I don't think it would help much! Right now I just try not to think about it! I know it's going to get too small but I don't see up being able to sell and buy a new house in the next 5 years! My husband is also a HUGE car guy and we only have a two car garage and a horrible steep driveway so it's just not what we want.... my husband wants to finish the garage and put nice flooring in but I just don't want to put anymore money into the house! Ugh! I just say don't think about it until that second baby comes! I can't let myself haha!

@artbee: No, no rush, just a discussion DH and I were having the other day. We were talking about what we want to do for the kitchen and ended up talking about future planning.

In that case I wouldn't worry about it until you have a 2nd, or find a bigger house that you love. I don't think there's any rush.

@aMohror: Yes exactly! I mean, we could add on to the back (we have a huge, flat yard) but other than that or losing the garage (which, my DH is a MAJOR car guy and he works out of the garage for extra cash) I feel like it'd get cramped fast! Let me know how it goes if you think about it?? haha.

@yoursilverlining: Nope, we have a crawl space only. :/

@artbee: Yeah, it's pretty important that we have at least some storage in our house. We'd have major issues without at least something. Pretty much I've concluded if we have 2 and want to stay here, then we need to add on a room of some sort.

We moved when I was pregnant to what will hopefully be our forever home. We have 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom and we want to have 2 kids. But we don't really need an office. We will lose all of that storage that we have in that extra room and we will no longer have a guest room, but I'm ok with all of that. We bought what we love and what we could afford in the neighborhood that we wanted to be in.

Do you have a basement you could finish into an office space?

@AmeliaBedelia: Sounds like we are in the same boat! We have a 3 bedroom 2 bath house and I'm already worried about when we have a second child! I love our house but right now we have one bedroom is the nursery and the other is completely full with office stuff, my husbands hobbies, my scrapbook stuff, just TONS of stuff! I thought about having our kids share a room but then the bedroom will be too cramped and we don't really have a play area either and like you, not a lot of storage! I guess we will just have to see how things go with baby #1 and who knows, maybe we will be in a good position to buy a bigger house before baby #2....I hope!

@Andrea: Definitely if they are the same sex we probably would. We have also considered adding a sunroom or something to put the office/playroom area, but aren't sure it'd be all that cost-effective.

@AmeliaBedelia: you could try having the 2 kids share a room if you really don't want to lose the office space.

we have some bedrooms with no closets or very small ones. my nursery has no closet so i bought a big armoire plus dresser for clothes storage.

@Andrea: It definitely is for now and, we think, for 1 kid. But if we have 2 we would lose our office and lots of storage. That's why we're a bit "Hmm, well, maybe" about it.

One issue with our house is that it has very little storage space - like no linen closets, for one thing.

That sounds like a good amount of space for kids! Is there something you're concerned about?

We moved into a house from living in a 1 bedroom 2 bath apartment so we would have ample space for kids. So far so good!

How did your home (or apartment, condo, etc) adjust to your children? We have a 3 bed 2.5 bath single family home, and are wondering if we'll outgrow it or how difficult it will be, etc?

Just share your experiences please bees. :)
