I'm so glad to see that most of your experiences were that the kids dealt with it ok! We most likely have to move this winter, and I'm so worried how DS will take it... I know I'll miss our place, and he might too!

@Cherrybee: I was terrified!! But on moving day, as things were coming off the truck I was setting up their rooms with the EXACT same configuration as their old rooms. And LMW had just gotten over a MAJOR sleep regression. And they both went to bed at normal time and slept thru the night!!!

We moved when DS was 8 months old. He was a terrible nighttime sleeper up until 12 months so that didn't matter. Our new house is much bigger than our old house so he enjoyed the extra roaming space. The move didn't affect him.

S was 16 months when we moved to Wales and she didn't seem to bat an eyelid. She didn't see us actually move as she went to stay with my parents before the movers came and we picked her up and brought her home after we were all set up in our new house. Sleep was unaffected too, thankfully!

Moving house doesn't seem to bother my son at all, we moved into our current home when he was 2.5 and he did just fine. I thought he would be stressed out about being away from his toys (we did an international move and following the shipment overseas, they went into storage for 6 months) but he had enough new experiences and things to keep him busy.

We moved when LO was 9 months and it was really rough but she has always been sensitive and especially was at that age. We had also just come back from a trip which was the first time we had left her.

We may be moving again soon & I am hoping it will go better this time because she's older and more flexible. @Pumuckl: That's a great idea to not let her see the empty house. I am also hoping we can have our car moved and we can fly to our new city so she doesn't have to deal with the 14 hour car ride.

We moved a few weeks after she turned 1. The move didn't affect her negatively at all. She was super excited about her new house and loved exploring it. She has always been a good sleeper and this didn't change at all. We made sure that her crib and bedroom were all set up that first night.

We moved house and location a month ago. Both my 2 year old and my baby were utterly unimpressed as in they didn't care. We made sure that the older one didn't see our old empty apartment with all his things gone and no idea were they ended up. So once he saw the new place all his things were in place.

Sleep wasn't much effected but he's been traveling a lot with us so he's used to sleeping in new places.

We have moved several times with DS and just once with DD. DS handled the moves really well, really there were no problems at all. DD was younger when we moved and it did mess up her sleep for awhile (but she wasn't STTN in any case).

For us, it worked to really get excited about it and talk about it like an adventure and really stress all the new, positive things. When the move actually happened, I set up the children's rooms first so that they would have all of their stuff available to them right away. If you can visit the new home a few times before you move, that could also be helpful so she can see it and spend a little time just running around when it's empty.

How did he/she cope and how old was he/she? Did you do anything special to make the transition smooth? Was sleep affected - agh?!
