They did it more like a sit up and rolling/pulling themselves up.

@Ms.Badger: Babies seem to find all sorts of strange positions comfortable - like sleeping on their bellies with their legs tucked under them?? How is that comfortable??

This is so interesting, it's like babies just figure out their own ways to move that seem really strange and awkward to me.

@stratosphere: Both my LOs did it from the side position and pushing up with one arm. DD was in physical therapy for torticollis and that was the position her PT would put her in to encourage her to sit, so I just figured that's how all kids do it? Her twin brother started sitting later than her, but he used the same position.

I guess my LO had a somewhat unique technique. She would roll onto her side and push herself up with her hands or by pulling on something solid nearby (like crib bars).

Both ways. I think J's way is called tripoding (?) where they'repropped on 3 limbs, D did that for a while :)

So, L got to sitting by getting onto all fours and then walking his hands back and plopping on his butt. J seems like he's trying to get there by doing down dog and letting his butt fall to one side. He ends up propped up on one elbow on his side. Is that ever going to work? I tried it and it seemed pretty awkward. So how did your LO get into sit?
