Following this as ds1 was 7 months old when we got pregnant with ds2. His brother was sort of just something that happened one day and I don't think he remembers a time without him! I'd be curious how both would take it for a third...

They were too little to get it DD1 was 14 months and 27 months each time I've gotten pregnant. For our third she (like everyone else) was confused because we already had a little baby.

DD2 was five months old when I figured it out so she had no clue what was going on.

She was excited! She was almost 3 and definitely understood what we were telling her so that was fun :)

We were worried that she would be disappointed that it was a boy since she kept saying it was a baby sister but she was actually happy and transitioned to talking about a baby brother seamlessly.

I feel like it's been forever since we told her (8 weeks and I am now 31 weeks) but her excitement has remained steady! We'll see what she thinks when it's a real baby, ha.

We told him when I was already almost three months along, he was 2 &3months. He didn't say a lot, especially because we had just told other family members so there was a lot going on.
But now he says that there is a baby in my belly and sometimes he kisses my belly! It's so sweet!

Ours was almost 3 and was so excited. He loved to kiss his brother in my belly and rub it. He even insisted on a certain name for him, and DH actually advocated for it as a middle name and won. :)

Lo must have heard us talking about the baby before we were ready to tell her, because she kept asking if I had a baby in my tummy--there was about a month of me saying "not yet" even though I was because we didn't want to tell her/have her tell others until after we got early testing results. So, when we finally told her, she was so excited but I think also relieved since she thought we were! We talk about the baby a LOT now, hopefully she'll still be excited in a couple weeks when baby arrives. It melts my heart when she talks about her sister.

We told LO1 (newly 3 at the time) that he was going to be a big brother again and of two babies at that after we had seen the twins twice, he then proceeded to tell his world (daycare teachers etc) because he was so happy 😬🙄
So daycare knows there's two new babies on the way since I am 9w or so 😉
LO2 knows now at 2 that there's babies coming but I don't think she graspes how different things will be when they actually get here. But she loves giving the babies in mommy's belly kisses.

LO was 10months when I got pregnant with this one so didn't (/doesn't) understand. But a few days ago I pointed to my stomach and said "baby" and he thought that was hilarious. He now will pull up my shirt, point to my stomach, say "hi baby!" and burst out laughing. It's cute at home but he's done it a few times in public too! And yesterday lifted up his shirt to point at his own tummy, identifying a baby there too. All I've done, I think, is confuse him on body parts. :silly:

He was 2 and he didn't really get it. He used get confused too and tell me there was a baby in his tummy and a baby in daddy's tummy, lol. There was no earth shattering, "You're getting a sibling!" moment. But that's ok because we talked about it a lot and it just became a fact of life, and now he adores his sister.

@Truth Bombs: Yeah, that was both DDs' secondary reaction. That it OBVIOUSLY had to be a girl. Lucky for them, they got their wish. Funnily enough, now that she's here, DD1 has wasted no time in asking for a little brother. Ha. Nice try. :)

She seemed very excited. She was almost 2.5 when we told her. We bought her a "Coolest Sister Ever" shirt and she was really excited about the shirt. But we kept talking about it. She did not care at all when we told her it was a little sister, but she loves her now.

I was kind of behind the curve of a lot of my friends having their second kid. So my LO was not at all surprised by the fact that I had a baby in my tummy. All her friends mommies had just had babies so I think part of her was thinking "duh, about time".

She did get emotional (and not in a good way) when we told her it was a boy. But she got over it quickly :silly:

When we started talking about TTC again, DH said he'd like for LO to tell him the news ... I got pregnant when she was nearly 3 (2 yrs. 11 m.). We were all laying in bed together, and I whispered to her to say, "I'm going to be a big sister."

The funny thing is, she didn't mentioned it again or respond to that for about 3 weeks. Finally she said it again, asked if there was a baby in my belly, and hasn't really stopped talking about it since. Yesterday she asked, "How's the umbilical cord doing?"

We'll ask if she's excited to be a big sister (yes), and she asks things like if the baby is wearing pajamas. ;)

I got pregnant with DS2 when DS1 was 12 months, so he didn't have a clue. Same timing with DS2 and DD, but DS1 was almost 3 when we found out about DD. He totally didn't believe me for awhile! He said "no, the baby is over there!" (pointing to his brother). Eventually, when I had a little bump and showed him some ultrasound pictures, he realized there really was another baby. Now, he's super excited and talks about her all the time.

My older DD (4 years at the time we told her) was excited, but didn't act at all surprised. My younger DD (2 years at the time we told her) had this hilarious really fake, cheesy grin on her face. It was like she knew she was supposed to be happy, but wasn't totally on board.

How old was your LO when you told them about a new baby? How did you tell them? How did they react?

I saw some videos the other day and I was shocked by how many siblings started sobbing, even if they were happy. It made me wonder if maybe all the emotion surrounding it just naturally results in a crying kiddo, whether they are happy or sad.

When I got pregnant with G, the twins were only 14 months old so we never really "told" them since they had no clue at that age. We talked about the baby generally, but even when they were almost 2 and he was about to be born, they didn't get it at all.
