We prepped by reading library books about the dentist and it made her very excited to go. I was amazed that she let the dentist look in her mouth and even polish her teeth! Second one at 2.5 was pretty awful--he screamed the whole time, except while the dentist was b rushing his teeth. We went to a pediatric dentist who had Thomas/Elmo playing on a tv in the ceiling the whole time. It went really well (I was worried at first though, because he would not sit in the chair that leaned back!). He ended up kind of leaning back on me while I sat in the chair. I was surprised, they did a full cleaning (scraping with the pick thing, brushing with the spinny dentist toothbrush, and flossing) - amazingly DS was fine with all of it. She will be 3 the end of June. Surprisingly she did fabulous! Sat in the chair by herself and was happy to get them cleaned, counted and the fluoride brushed on. It is a pedi dentist and jungle themed plus she got to wear sunglasses. Did you add her to your dental?</p> <p>DD1 was a little upset at her first appointment initially. But overall did well. She was 2 and they did do a cleaning. We've gone twice. The first time was at 16 mo because he was vomiting so much (undiagnosed dairy allergy) that the ped wanted to get his enamel checked. The dentist was super late to the appointment because he was in surgery, and the hygienist just let him move the chair up an down for like 45 minutes. He loved it. </p> <p>Then we just went last week. It's a pediatric dentist, and the whole place is jungle themed. He got scared of the pick, so the dentist just switched back to the toothbrush. He also checked lo2's mouth and confirmed he doesn't have any teeth even close to coming in! He's almost a year! She was just over three and we had a similar visit. But they did "clean". They brushed with a regular brush that she got to bring home with her. They also counted her teeth as well.</p> <p>We just had our 2nd visit and she went alone into the cleaning. They also did x-rays. Teeth look great, and they said she behaved great as well. We are taking her to a pediatric dentist so it's very kid-friendly. I was so proud of how well she did. Since she's not 3 yet, they didn't do a cleaning but they had me sit on a chair with her facing me. I leaned her back into the dentist's lap and he checked her teeth and added fluoride to them while she was laying down. I think she was just happy to comply so she could get a bouncy ball from the bouncy ball machine. :)</p> <p>How did your lo's first dentist appointment go? </p>
