My mom was a bartender and sang in a rock band, my dad was in the Air Force and working at the base there. They met at her bar, got married, honeymooned in Paris, all before either set of parents met their child's spouse! My dad got sent on a temporary deployment to Florida, so he decided to stop by and meet my mom's parents, alone, without my mom. The day she met my dad, she called her family and told them she met the man she would marry, so she broke up with the friend and got together with my dad. Apparently my dad and his friends started hanging out with my mom and her friends, and one night he stood outside her window with a guitar and serenaded her with some song like "can you come out tonight" (some Korean song). They ended up hanging out but my mom and her friends were scheduled to leave the next day... but after leaving, she came back, alone, to hang out with my dad until he left the resort!</p> <p>Apparently they became friends (but still weren't dating) and then my dad's mom burned her arm really badly. She hates hospitals so my dad asked my mom to come and dress the wound every day, and since my mom was a nursing student she agreed. </p> <p>Apparently during this process they'd go out to dinner a lot... again, still not really dating... and my mom told my dad that she was planning on moving to Germany after graduation with a bunch of her friends. Apparently Germany recruited a lot of Korean nurses back in the day. My dad was planning on moving to the USA in the fall and he had a student visa. My mom told him that one of her friends just dropped out of going to Germany because her fiance married her and he had a student visa to the states, too, so he took her with him. My dad said "let's do that!" My mom was totally freaked out and immediately said no since, well, they weren't even dating yet!</p> <p>My mom went home and told her mom about my dad's proposition... and her mom urged her to accept it because she LOVED my dad. Apparently my dad was very handsome, smart, and charming. (still is!) But on New Years Day my mom and her friend were having a contest on who could kiss more boys at the Mummers Parade. My Dad was there watching his brother perform in the parade and my mom laid one on him. A couple days later he called my mom to ask her out that night and she told him "no...to call at least 3 days in advance for a date."
