My mom was a SAHM and once we were both in school, she started volunteering at the school. At some point, she got a part-time job on the weekends though. She was able to bring us and pick us up from school so it was never really different for us. We went to an extended day program just in the morning. I remember playing a lot of rummy (the card game) with the extended day caretakers, lol. My mom SAH and my dad worked so us being back to school just meant my mom got to go about her business without us kids from 8-3. When our kids start school my husband will still drop them off as he does now at day care. For pick up we will do one of 3 things: YMCA after care at school, pay at SAHM in our neighborhood to keep them for an hour, or I'll cut back at work and leave at 3 so I can pick them up. We have two more years before we need to decide. When I was younger my dad was a dairy farmer at home and my mom worked two jobs, but always had weekends off. It's funny seeing all of the responses so far. Why is our generation so conditioned to cater to our kids? My parents never really played with us, we were told to go in the other room away from the adults all the time and didn't shuffle us off from event to event and we all turned out great! So no change (except my mom probably got a bit of a break!). Parents are excited and kids may or may not be excited about the start of school. How did your parent's schedule change from summer time to back to school? My parents schedule didn't change because my dad was home in the mornings and my mom worked. We saw my dad in the morning and my mom would come home around 6pm.
