Our cat could care less, he's more interested in her furniture/carrier/swing etc. Our dog however, was very curious and wanted to smell her when we first brought her home. She also became very anxioius and concerned about her when she cried at first. Now, she's super protective and will even come to us if the baby is fussing and we don't get up right away. She always randomly licks her arm, hand, face (whatever she can reach really) as she's walking by.

2 male cats! Each very attention hungry in their own way. They both sniff her and one is VERY protective and follows me around when she is crying. Oddly, they both knew quickly they were no longer priority #1 on the food chain and don't beg for food attention or anything else these days!

we aren't pregnant yet, but this is something i'm already worried about. we have a PRECIOUS little mutt (pekepoo-pom), and he is a rascal. he is incredibly hyper, and loves to lick and jump. he barks and jumps whenever we come through the door. he tries to lick and play with my 8-month old nephew, and doesn't understand that he's not just someone else to play with. i know this will be a problem, but i'm not sure what to do about it...

Totally subscribing to this thread because I am curious! I'm due in July and we have two Goldens... our older Golden seems like he is indifferent towards kids, and the younger one likes being around them (and having his tail pulled, his eyes poked, etc.). However, those interactions were with toddlers, not infants and newborns.

I'm worried about this too. We have 2 dogs, a chihuahua and a pomeranian. The Pomeranian does her own thing but I'm a little afraid of the chihuahuas reaction, he likes to get in peoples faces and I'm a little afraid he may scratch the baby.

@Mslipgloss- both my cats were male and the one who DH doesn't like was originally a stray so he was already a little skittish which DH just exemplifies. My other cat is a nondiscrimination love bug and will love on/sit on/rub on anyone who enters the house.

@PurrpleTulips: Lol! I was a *package deal* too; I came with two cats. My boy is still a mama's boy, but my girl has totally defected and is now a daddy's girl through and through. She melted DH's heart and has officially made him a cat person (or at least he now loves cats and dogs equally).

We have two yorkies, and worry about this in the future. Our guy is mellow as anything, but the girl thinks SHE is a baby. Doesn't help I walk around holding them like babies I'm sure hehe!

2 cats and 1 dog - 1 cat stayed hidden (not unusual b/c he hates DH, but in the cat's defense DH doesn't like him-the cats came with me in the marriage deal), the other cat was curious and would sniff LO or sit beside me on the couch since his usual place (my lap) was often already occupied. The dog was curious but not intrusive, her biggest dislike was that she instantly went from 2 walks a day to 1 if she was lucky. Now after 2years the cats are pretty much the same and the dog adores LO even allowing her to sit and climb on/over her.

They were scared, then curious but would keep their distance even ignore. Yet, they protect him (we have 2 cats)

Our dog HATED my LO. We had issues the day that we came home because my milk didn't come in so LO was hungry and screaming. He didn't like that, and would leave the room whenever we came in it.

But she stopped screaming so much eventually (she had reflux so it took a while for it to stop) and he started to like her and loves licking her. At first she didn't like that, or him, but now she's to a point where she's interested in him and will grab at him and not cry when he licks her. They're very sweet together.

We have 2 cats and they could care less about her. They've been trying to stay out of the way since we brought her home from the hospital.

We have 2 dogs and 1 cat, and we also have a 2 week old little boy. My husband and I were curious how our pets were going to handle the new addition.

We are very happy so far. Our cat could care less, but we aren't surprised bc that is just how she is. Our 2 dogs have become very protective and seem to adore him. One of our dogs is especially fond of him. Whenever we hold him and we are on the couch, he comes up to sniff him then starts bouncing around and licking us. It is precious! Our other dog has been acting out the past few days (most likely feeling misplaced), but he still seems to love our little guy.

How did your pets react to your new addition(s)?
