I used sick time to cover my elimination period and the STD period started with that 1st day, not after using the sick time. I had 12 weeks off because of FMLA - 8 weeks STD with the first week using my sick time, then I used 2 weeks of vacation, then I had two weeks unpaid. Did that make sense?

Mine pays 60% for anytime prior to the birth that I was unable to work (bed rest or admitted to hospital) plus 6 weeks after the birth. No waiting period.

I'm curious how other people's STD for maternity leave. I got one answer from my HR person and I got letter from my STD company which seems to say the opposite.

Basically, I'm wondering about the elimination period. Did you have to use vacation/sick time to cover it?

I was put on bed rest starting 11/5, which is the day my leave started. STD company says waiting period is 7 days and benefits begin 11/12. I get 8 weeks @ 100% (potentially another 4 @ 60%) and I'm curious whether the clock starts on 11/5 or 11/12.

The HR person indicated that PTO would get used to cover the elimination period, but the 8 weeks would start 11/5, but she didn't seem 100% sure. Is that the way it normally works? I feel like if the policy says it covers 8 weeks, it should be paying for 8 weeks.
