@Mrs. Jacks: we will be doing it pretty early because ill want time to get both of their rooms together before the baby comes. I thought about doing the bed and move at the same time but dh thinks thats too much change at once.

when do you do the actual moving of furniture? Does it matter or help at all if your lo is or isn't around to see it?

I'd do it sooner rather than later. You don't want her to associate the move with the new baby coming. It is really hard to feel like you've been replaced. I might present the whole move as, "You are such a big girl now that you get your new big girl room with a big girl bed!" and do both changes at once.

Well, we just completely moved to a new house, and LO didn't care one bit -- he's been sleeping and napping like usual. Basically we just kept his routine as similar as possible, but I credit it just as much to temperament. We did make a conscious decision to put off his transition to a bed until after we've been in the new place awhile. I'm hoping to do that in August, which will give him some time to adjust before new baby arrives in October.

It was a non-event. She even moved downstairs and we are upstairs. I think you just big up their new room and furniture and they will be fine.

I have experience with this and I don't. We moved when H was 13 months so not only did he need to adjust to a new room, he had to adjust to a whole new house. He went from being confined to two rooms to having the run of the place. Sleep was rough for a week - he went from STTN to one or two wake ups a night but that was also probably because of Em.

We're hoping to move upstairs by the end of the month so we'll be moving his room but keeping downstairs the same. I'm hoping that will make the transition okay - at least we aren't moving house or adding another baby!

We've decided that she'll stay in her room and the new baby will just be in the bedroom down the hall. My toddler is also very into a routine and since she'll be getting her big girl bed soon, I don't want to rattle her world up too-too much.

We moved DD to a new room with new furniture (toddler bed, etc...) at 18 months. We decorated the room and surprised her with it on Christmas, so she was very excited! We actually have a video of her jumping up and down and screaming. :) On Christmas Day, we had her nap in her new bed/room, and her naps were a little short. So that night, we put her to bed in the old room/crib. But the next day she napped and slept there for nighttime, and we never had another issue.

We moved Charlie twice: once from one apartment to another (we moved) and again within the current apartment (before Olive came). Both moves weren't that bad! We kept his crib the same, and used the same chair too for a while, I think... that sort of stuff helps!

It was bad for 4-5 days. She took longer to fall asleep and she woke up crying a few times after we moved to our new house.

Right now my LO is in the room right across from mine. We want the new baby to take over that room because it's just more convenient to have the baby closer for all of the late night feedings. My parents did that with us... each new baby got the room right next to theirs and the sibling moved down the hall.

I'm just worried about how LO will take this. She's very into routine. If you leave something out of place, like a wipe on the changing table instead of putting it away, she cries. Hard. My mom literally did just that and LO was bawling until I went in there and showed her what was wrong.

So yes, I'm worried about moving rooms. Also, we will be putting LO in a toddler bed a few months before we move her room, and she'll obviously have a new baby sibling. So that's a lot of change in general for a little one.

How did your toddler deal with moving rooms?
