@Tanjowen: Physically my brother and I look NOTHING a like, people don't believe we're related.
But we have similar personalities and a similar sense of humour. We're both big on family life and always wanted families. Also, both non-confrontational and people pleasers, which can get annoying when we're trying to agree on something lol.
I've also been the scheduled 'responsible' one who makes lists and gets shit done, whereas he's the 'go with the flow' type and prefers others to make the plans.
He's older than me but it's been said I act like the traditional older sibling and he acts like the younger one.

DH is one of four, and they are all SO different! it's crazy! They were raised in the same house by the same parents and are all within 5 years, they do have some similarities, but each one has distinctly different personalities, it's so strange.

I think in most ways, my brother and I are very similar, especially as adults (as kids, everything came more easily to him and he was more popular than I was). One big difference is how we see/prioritize extended family in relation to our individual/nuclear families, ie we have very different relationships with our parents! I also have a more direct communication style, whereas he holds things in that bother him.

I am one of five and we are all very different, but all get along very well! I think it's really cool seeing how we turned out with such different personalities.

My older brother is very quiet, methodical, and cautious. He likes things orderly, simple, and predictable. I don't think he wouldn't mind if he did the same thing every day for the rest of his life!

I am very independent, free-thinking, creative, and outgoing. I like spontaneity, change, big social settings, being funny and loud. (I am also the butt of most of the family jokes because they are all CRAZY competitive and most of them are amazing athletes, and I don't care at all about competition, I lose pretty much every game, and suck at throwing a football.)

My younger sister is more type A and likes everything to be planned out. She is a good leader and kind of bossy (and sometimes acts like she thinks she needs to control my life because I can't, lol).

My younger brother is SUPER intellectual, and likes people to know it, lol. He values logic above emotions and relationship. He is pretty introverted (but sarcastic), passionate about philosophy and politics.

My youngest sister, the baby of the family, is probably the most like me. We are both outgoing (we were both cheerleaders in HS) people people and place a high value on peace and harmony. So we kind of bond over the fact that we can have hurt feelings from other people in the family but never dare tell them or confront them, lol.

One thing that makes us all feel close is although we are different personality-wise, we are all really expressive about out feelings for each other. So, we say "I love you," a lot, and we are kind of touchy feely (lots of hugs, cheek kisses, back rubs, arms around each other, cuddles, etc.).

Even though there's a 17 year age gap between my older brother and youngest sister, we are all very close. We have pretty much similar interests, watch the same tv shows, movies, read the same books, have the same political views. Interestingly though, my brother and I were raised more by my mother while my father was a workaholic. Then my mother's mental disorder and addiction really took over and my two younger sisters were raised more by my father who became a WAHD (and my mother was MIA).

So we definitely have different temperaments - my brother and I are more hot tempered and action oriented, whereas my sisters are more laid back and amicable. I honestly think it's amazing but we all get along very well and would probably have dinner together multiple times a week if we lived in closer proximity.

I think my brother and I are very similar in some ways, similar ideologies, similar values, a few shared interests, but we have very different lifestyles. I live in a European capital city and he lives in the middle of the woods in Midwestern America, practically in a commune!

I'm super Type A, always organized and like planning ahead. My brother is much more go with the flow. But other than that, we are pretty similar. We both work in finance, we have very similar sense of humor, we got married within 5 months of each other, had our daughters almost exactly 1 year apart and had our sons 48 hours apart, so our lives have followed extremely similar paths. We live a plane ride away from each other so we don't see each other as much as we'd like, but we text/email all the time and FaceTime regularly with the kiddos. My brother's inability to plan anything in advance used to drive me crazy but now I just go directly his wife (who is awesome, we have a great relationship, just as my bro has a great relationship with my husband) to handle that kind of stuff and avoid headaches for all involved.

My sister and I are so different, yet at the same time, so similar. We have the same sense of humor, we'll laugh at something, or notice something, that NO one else does. We shared hobbies and excelled in the same areas as kids, especially dance, music, and languages. We were on dance team together in high school, we shared friends, she even elected to attend the same college I did, 2 years behind me, and we loved being there together and took classes together. We are currently in the same stage of life: got married within a year of each other, and have babies less than 9 months apart.

Yet, despite all of these similarities, she is all business, highly organized, and much more type A. I'm highly creative, artistic, and well...have my own way of organizing. :silly: She works very high up in a national nonprofit, I can't stand to work for other people and am a serial entrepreneur. She is more of a peacekeeper, I am confrontational. We're both sensitive, but in different ways.

We're all so, so different. My oldest sister is super outgoing, very intelligent and witty but a type B personality. The next sister in line is quirky, sticks to a schedule and is also pretty outgoing. My third sister is an introvert, bookworm and has a mathematical brain. I'm type A, quiet and a little bit of a creative mind.

I guess we all have at least one personality trait in common so we all get along pretty well (for the most part).

We are SO different. We couldn't be more different! One is a jetsetter married to someone high in military and lives abroad. Sometimes she is in tune with other people's feelings, other times she is jealous and purposely makes people look bad or cry! Another is a business woman in Manhattan. She is cold and sensitive, bit clueless to other's emotions, very jealous. They are both dominating, love to be center stage, no children. I live modestly in a medium sized city in the midwest and am growing a family. I love outdoors, animals, am kind of a free spirit and an artist. I am very in tune with other's emotions and love viewing things from every perspective. The fighting is intense!

But we are both intellectuals who can be kind of intense for some people and we share similar political and philosophical views. We are both athiest (NOT raised that way) and very family focused.

At this point in our lives I don't think we are all that terribly different. We are both stable family-types who swear too much and use too much sarcasm. We have different interests and political views but I feel like our personalities are similar. Ten years ago the answer would've been different though. My brother had much more of a rebellious streak/need to fit in (with friends) than I did so his teens and 20s were full of bad choices and he sort of had a lost decade (whereas I was a family-pleaser who went the traditional route). But he grew up eventually, as most people usually do :)

I was reflecting on this some today. At Thanksgiving, as we went around the table stating what we were thankful for, it was mentioned more than once that the 4 of us are vastly different, and it's interesting since we were all raised in the same environment!

My sister is extremely non emotional and scientifically minded. My oldest brother is impulsive and has no clue what the word schedule means. And my little brother is all about fighting "the man" and trying to live off the grid. They all fight like cats and dogs and are night owls.

I'm big on schedules, emotional definitely a morning person that goes to bed early, and the peacekeeper of the family.

How do you and your siblings different? Or are you the same?
