Between 5 and 7. I was going to hold off a bit longer, but my husband told me he was going to tell them to get an epi for me if I didn't the next time a nurse came in because I had just cried through a contraction and they were starting to be right on top of each other. And apparently the anesthesiologist was going to leave in an hour 15 mins so I wanted to get it before he left.

Between 7 and 8, probably more like 8 because I was starting to vomit with contractions and I was 8 when they checked me after the epidural. I was 7 when I was checked in triage and finally got the epidural a couple of hours later..

My water broke at home and I arrived at the hospital at 7cm, but hadn't yet felt a single contraction. When they did start, in the waiting room, of course, they were every 2 minutes, so I needed relief and fast!

Not sure - they checked me when I got to the hospital and I was 3 cm dilated, but it took 2.5 hours to get into a room and for the anesthetist to get there and administer an epidural. During that time, I laboured standing up and the contractions were one on top of the other with hardly a break in between. They didn't check again before the epi.

The epi pretty much stopped my contractions, but they let me rest for a few hours before checking me again, fully expecting me to only be at a 4 or a 5 as the contractions were so slow and not that intense. Imagine all of our surprise when I was 10 cm dilated! The midwife thinks I progressed really quickly between the time I was first checked and when I got the epi, probably as a result of labouring standing up. And actually, looking back at the contraction and heart rate monitor, she pointed out the pattern that would indicate transition and that was occurring as soon as I got the epi, which was the first chance they had to put the monitors on.

So bottom line is that I don't know how dilated I was, but it was somewhere around transition, although we'll never know for sure!

@misolee: this is true. My mom has six children. Only one was induced and she said that is the most memorable and painful labor, she still vividly remembers it and even still greatly regrets electing to be induced.

I was induced as well and it was hell on earth. I didn't get an epidural though.

Not sure. I was 6 when I got to the hospital, and had to wait about 90 min to get the epi. I wasn't checked again until 45 minutes after I got the epi, and by then I was at a 10! So if I had to guess, somewhere between 7 and 8 when I got it?
