"No biting" doesn't seem to work for us. He smiles and does it again. Would love to know if anyone finds a solution that works for a stubborn 18m old.

@MrsSRS: the first time I yelped because I was so surprised. Now I try to be unruffled and calm and just say "no. I won't let you do that. No biting". But maybe I could be more stern?!

Try a deep voice no instead of a yelp? We also found short time outs to be surprisingly effective at this age.

This worked better for DH than me - but he would act like how our puppy trainer taught us for our puppy and make a huge wounded yelping noise when she would "nip." Apparently he sounds scary and I sound hilarious so she stopped for him. I eventually would just say "no" and disconnect her teeth from me and put her down and turn away from her quickly. She's mostly stopped (at 18 mo) but does sometimes have some toothy kisses ;)

My baby does that on our shoulder when we cuddle him! I just am ready and hold him back but I don't know what else to do, it sounds like you are doing the exact right thing.

I'm sure this is going to make my toddler sound like a puppy, but sometimes when he is excited or wants my attention, he runs up and buries his face in the back of my legs....and then nips me! The first time he did it I am certain that I yelled out and then turned around and said "no biting!" It hurts. And is surprising! Now that he got that rise out of me, he does it all the time! When he starts burying his face in my legs, I turn around and pull him off and say "I won't let you do that. No biting" calmly. And then he laughs and runs away.

Any suggestions? He's 15m.
