I like to lame it on my cats. I don't get it either. Nothing spills but all of a sudden everything is sticky, wth?

I wish I knew. Ours seem to be so dirty no matter how many times they get swept & mopped. We don't have a pet and usually don't wear shoes in the house.

Well, our issue is this clumsy back thing that scurries around our house named Stanley. Our floors are infinitely messier since getting a cat.

I dont know how the floors get dirty so quickly either, but a robot vacuum has solved this for us and I don't have to lift a finger*. I am so happy I don't have to sweep/vacuum anymore!

*ok fine print: I have to empty the dust bin every other day or so.

I ask myself this all the time. I vacuum every day but with three dogs, there's always fur everywhere. Not looking forward to LO crawling around soon... she's gonna be covered in fur :(

@NYCaliMama: ugh I know... I was really hoping DS wouldn't start crawling until we moved because the carpets at our current place never come clean and have never been professionally cleaned. It's gross... and our vacuum doesn't seem to do a satisfactory job!

Thankfully he's not quite mobile and we're moving soon.

I would love hardwood floors, I feel they're easier to maintain. But if we had a dog... they might be grosser. At my nanny job, there is dog hair ALL over the floor. Their son was crawling last year and was always covered in it. gross.

I'm sweeping my floors every day and mopping nearly as often. Plus I have to brush the cat every night.

You don't notice how dirty floors are until you have a baby army crawling around on them all day, she still ends up dirty, it's embarrassing! And we never wear shoes inside.

Omg I have been saying this over and over again the past few months! it wasn't a problem in our doorman building... I guess because we walked a while in common areas to get home. Now we are in a townhouse apt setting and I'm guessing it's that we come in from outside quicker? We take our shoes off right away though and I clean the floors daily now! So annoying! It's largely why I'm glad my youngest went from crawling to walking recently...

@highwire: My working theory is that little elves come down the chimney while we're sleeping and track soot everywhere.

Good question. And I have no children to blame in my house yet. Our floors get so gross so quickly.

I simply don't understand it. We vacuum, wipe and mop the floors 3-4 times a week... and yet each time, it's pretty messy.

I guess it's the strollers that track in the dirt? Still though, how does the dirt get everywhere? And why does the kitchen floor get so dirty too!

I guess I am just wondering: how do floors get so messy so quickly?
