@Smurfette: My DH complained about it too but then he later admitted it's been great to have them because no matter how hard our son pulls/hangs off the handles, these locks have held up. After a while, my son just stopped trying to open them.

For the door can you get an alarm that alerts you when the door is opened (with a beep r whatever?) I would b afraid I'd forget to lock the top lock too.

For the drawers, we have those stupid knobs that are really hard to pull, because they have almost no lip to them, but it turns out they make it really hard for little baby hands to get a grip on them too- so far she can't even open the bottom ones, though se does chew on them (ew).

@Dandelion: duh!
@lisa1783: I was thinking about those. DH is going to bitch, but oh well. The one drawer has pens and the other has Bque tools, so we don't need her grabbing metal skewers.

On the front door, can you install a chain lock or something up high?

Have you considered magnetic locks? We use these and they're great.

I'd be worried my son would bonk his head on the top drawers, I'd try some duct tape and see if that deters first.

@T.H.O.U.: Taking the knobs off is a great idea. The door is the front door. So I don't think we can just switch it out. We are still replacing all the ugly gold ones that came with the house, so most of the room doors still have knobs.

@locavore_mama: Those straps are like the ones we have and broke. Opps!
Thanks for the door handles. I looked on amazon and didn't see them.

@Smurfette: so they sell these for lever handles: http://amzn.com/B001B2S1ZC
But we don't have lever handles so I have no experience.

With drawers we have nothing dangerous in them so I don't bother childproofing. But they do sell "straps" http://amzn.com/B006R7M4GI

The easiest suggestion for the drawer knobs is to remove the knobs. We have some cabinets that are like that and they are tight enough that without the knob she can't open them, but if you pull just right you can get into it.

What kind of latch handle did you have? If you would rather a knob, you can always get a cheap knob door handle pretty cheaply.

for #1, they aren't pretty but you can use these:

http://www.diapers.com/p/munchkin-xtraguard-dual-action-multi-use-latches-2pk-721709?vid=2xqG5TZOVdevJyO132A76O0cb%2bQQ%2fm0LT5%2fus%2bi4hCI%3d

we had them on some closets and a couple drawers. you can't really forget about them. when we moved removing them did do damage in a couple places, but otherwise I liked them.

1. R is starting to open the top two drawers, the bottom two we told her are her drawers. We used the latches that go in the drawer but DH and I both forget about them and shut the drawer and they break. Is there anything else that will work?

2. How do we child proof these door handles? R likes to shut the door and has started pulling at the handle. I always lock the door when we are home but what if I forget one time.
