@Mrs. Bee: I just ordered the Aden & Anais swaddle blankets yesterday (and found out today that the brokerage to get them to Canada DOUBLES the price I'm paying) so I hope they're worth it.

Thanks for the help everyone, looks like I just need to pick up a few more things and we'll see what kind of baby we end up with!

We were gifted a lot of newborn clothes, at our shower and when baby was born but if I had to buy stuff it would be 0-3 months. My LO came home from the hospital at a little over 6 lbs so she was a tiny thing and could fit in nb and 0-3 months for awhile. NB for almost 3 months and 0-3 months for about 4 months. It really depends a lot on the shape and build of your LO. I liked dressing her in little onsies, but it was the summer so she often just went in a diaper and then I'd put a little dress over her diaper.

I bought a 5-pack of Carter's short sleeve side-snap tees in NB and another of the same kind but long sleeve in 0-3 months. DH was 8.5 lbs as a newborn and I have a feeling LO will be pretty big so I don't know if we'll even get to use the NB size. But I'm due in the summer, so even if NB fits, I can just go tee + diaper + swaddle. So I'm not too worried about buying any more.

I do have a bunch of 0-3 months, 6, 9-month, and even a few 1-yr sleep & plays so I think we should be covered for now.

I heard that the Gerber brand ran small, so I got a few of those in 0-3 and don't expect to use it for long, but they're pretty cheap, so it was worth the gamble.

Our LO was 7 lbs 2 oz - and was in newborn clothes for almost 8 weeks (longer than he was in 0-3, or 3-6 - it seemed). He probably gained weight a bit slower than other babes.

Also, I've found the "cheaper" the clothes, the smaller they seem to run and the more "expensive" clothes seem to be a bit bigger. Just my personal observation - not always the case.

i added a pair of premies, even though i'm not sure if my babies will be premies. hard to really buy clothes when you have NO idea how big your babies will be or how quickly they'll grow!

For the first 6 months, my son wore Carters footed pajamas when we were at home. We had about 4 in newborn size then 6 in the 3, 6 and 9 month sizes. That was perfect in case he spit up and I didn't have to do laundry every day.

When we went out, he'd wear a Ralph Lauren striped one piece romper with socks. I bought a ton of those, but they run small.

i forgot what it was like to dress a newborn until i had olive! they grow so fast.

definitely preferred sleepers/footed rompers for staying home. no need to worry about matching tops and bottoms, easy peasy. when we go out i dress her in a onesie and pants.

at night i put her in a sleeper + swaddle blanket (like the swaddleme), and an aden and anais swaddle blanket over that.

i did sleeping gowns with charlie, but they are pricey whereas the aden and anais swaddle blankets will have a much longer life.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now as far as what to use, what did you prefer? Onsies or sleepers or just the t-shirt with a diaper and swaddle?

Since sizes vary based on brand (just like adult clothes), we managed without any newborn sizes. Our baby was born 6lb 5oz at birth. You'll probably be okay with just 0-3 mos, but some people prefer to have some newborns on hand. Congrats!

Our daughter was 5 lb 7 oz at 2 days of life. We were in premie clothes for a month. They say that for any baby over 9 lbs, 0-3 months should be ok. Otherwise go newborn.

It is tough. Our LO was big and wore newborn stuff for maybe a week.

One other note, wen inthe high Florida summer heat I still always had my newborns arms and legs covered especially when leaving the house.

Well, I thought it made more sense to have the 0-3 instead of newborn clothes. But our LO ended up needing more newborn clothes than I had prepared for. She was a thin lil thing. Conversley- our nephew was monsterous and never fit into the newborn clothes. So it's really tough to say! I'd have equal amounts of both if possible.

LO was born 7lbs, 6oz and wore newborn size for a good 1.5 months and even then 0-3 was still too big.

I would have some newborn sizes on hand...It's cute to see your baby in well-fitting snug clothes. :)

Newborn is the first month and 0-3 is 1-3 months. At least that's how I feel like it worked for us. Only LO was big so she was really ahead of the sizes all the time.

Newborn is smaller than 0-3. I found having a few newborn sizes were helpful. Luckily my SIL gave me hand me downs. I would recommend you having a few items on hand. Maybe even buy them used? My LO was 8 lbs 5 oz, 21.5 inches at birth and was just swimming in 0-3 months. It was nice to have a few newborn things that fit her really well but I can't say we used them for a long time.

We had our shower this weekend and now it's time for DH and I to start rounding out our layette. I've sorted all the clothes we got into 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 month sizes, and we have a few things that are newborn size. Now I've gone over Mrs. Bee's must have lists, but should I be buying in Newborn size or 0-3? Is there a difference? I'm so confused!
