@BabyBoecksMom: she has 2 bottom teeth, the one too tooth that's already cut through, and 1 more top tooth that has just started or is about to cut through. So 4 total with more not far behind.

@jennylynn: How many teeth does she have? I noticed that she only did it for the front 8 (4 top/bottom). She's getting her molars and incisors right now but she hardly has been grinding on them, which is a big step up from the other teeth.

@BabyBoecksMom: Not so brave. I go in at the side where there are no teeth, and she generally does not chomp when I put a finger in.

My LO does this too and the sound makes my skin crawl! She doesn't seem to be in pain so I don't do anything about it. I distract her when I can (so I don't have to hear that awful noise)!

@BabyBoecksMom: I've given her teething tabs a couple of times but usually only at bedtime since that's when it seems to bother her most. I'll have DH try giving her some today and see if it helps.

@Mrs. Jacks: I've wondered if she's using it to self-soothe for pain because she's also working on another tooth beside it. She doesn't seem fussy or anything though.

@Mrs. Jacks: You're brave to stick your finger in her mouth ;-) The moment I do that, DD will chomp on it - HARD.

As much as that sound makes my skin crawl, I usually just bear it and know that it will pass in a few days because she's just trying to relieve the pressure from the new tooth/teeth. Have you tried giving her some teething tablets or Tylenol? And do you notice a difference when you do?

I stick my finger in the baby's mouth and then try to distract her quickly or put the pacifier in her mouth. Then I assess if she's in pain and needs some tylenol. We don't make a big deal about it so that she doesn't think it's a game.

Lala never did it much but M. does. It is improving now that we've been consistent with how we interrupt it.

M just got her first top tooth recently and has since figured out how to grind it with her bottom teeth. How do I get her to stop?! I've tried saying "no" but it's not working. She does it constantly! Besides not being able to stand the sound, I don't want it to become a long term habit. Help!
