Since you think he'll go for blueberry or pineapple juice, can you start him off with that so that he gets used to the idea of juice being "good"? Then you can cut in white grape juice until that's all he's drinking.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm not sure. I tried to ask if I diluted it, like basically flavored the water with a dash of blueberry or somethings and she said no, but I can see why they are not "clear". When I had clear liquids in the past it was "see through" like you said, but their guidelines seem different because the things I could have she said no to. Pear was the ideal juice she suggested, which IMO is the most clear?, but he can't have it. The prep is 48 hours of liquids. The first 24 are full liquids only and the 2nd 24 are "clear" liquids only up until 2 hours before and then an enema the morning of...he is having an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time. I know for mine I had the Moviprep, but they said he is too small for something like that.

ETA: The papers about the prep say breastmilk is a "clear" liquid, but when I said I wish I knew because we JUST used the last of ours she said that he couldn't have it anyway, even though the paperwork says so. I think she really meant clear as in clear for some reasons. Makes someone dealing wiht a limited diet dealing with an even smaller window.

@anbanan15: I have never heard of that as a prep before. By clear do they mean "see through" though? Pineapple and blueberry are not see through.

@Mrs. Jacks: I tried to ask her about this and the only thing from his list of safe foods she approved was the white grape juice. I wanted to try blueberry or pineapple juice and she said no to them unless I could get "clear".

@brownie: Thanks. We can't do apple. Her other suggestion was pear which is also out and I don't have time to do a trial on Gatorade in case it doesn't work out we will not have enough time to recover.

For fruits he can only have blueberries, pineapple, rasins/grapes, strawberries, watermelon, and banana's and they only said okay to the white grape. Ugh.

@anbanan15: okay. I think you are doing what you can. He will either have it or not when the time gets there. I would suspect once it's the only thing he can have he will drink it. It will be rough and there will be tears. It breaks my heart when my son can't have something he wants or that everyone else has. But I know that it is better if he doesn't. Keep trying and keep offering. I read somewhere it takes like 10 times before they will try it and 10 times more before they will like it.

What about Gatorade? My son took to that a lot more than pedialyte. They have some clear ones. Also white grape juice can be very strong I would try some apple juice. Once he's drinking something he will likely be more apt to drink something different.

@anbanan15: clears can have color if they just need you to do clears. In nursing parlance a "clear" is any thing you can see through, but that may not be what they are going for.

@anbanan15: what about using something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-431-4-Piece-Silicone-Maker/dp/B0036B9KHO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368986419&sr=8-1&keywords=silicone+popsicle+tubes so he can't tell it is clear??

@brownie: it is the only thing he can have that day (juice, water, pedialyte). The 48 hrs before he can only have full liquids so basically the same but also his splash. The nurse said if he is not drinking anything with sugar by 3 pm the day before the scope I need to call and they will figure something else out...I'm not sure what that means but I *think* taking him to the hospital and getting him hooked up to an IV early.

I would keep offering. We had problems with my son preferring water to anything else. We had to make him drink the juice and theme he got water. But we also wouldn't offer anything and eventually accepted it.

Does he have to drink it all day or is the only thing he can have? Because I (mean mommy) wouldn't worry so much and on that day I would only give him what he is allowed. He will either drink it or not. It will be rough but I suspect it will be rough anyway.

Keep the ideas coming please! It's going to be a long 24 hours and the day before we can only do full liquids so that will be a long day as well!

Popsicles are on the agenda to be made, but I have a feeling because they will be clear he isn't going to eat them. He has had blueberry/banana ones in the past from fresh pureed fruit but we can't make that for the prep.

@Rubies: I love juice! I just said "what kid doen't like juice?" but then again it being him I'm not surprised this is an issue...issue as in running away from it screaming when he sees it's juice or what he thinks is juice in his cup.

maybe make the juice and pedialyte into Popsicles? That's all I can think of. Otherwise I would call the Dr's office and ask for suggestions.

LO has to drink juice as part of the prep for his upcoming scopes. He has never had it at 2 and we decided to start giving it to him now since he sometimes takes awhile with new foods. After 1 week he won't drink it. We have tried different dilutions - 1:3, 1:2, and 1:1 - without success. In a 24 hour period the most he has drank is 50 ml!

Today I tried making him a homemade pedialyte (he will not drink the store bought) and he won't even attempt to try it because he thinks it is juice. I'm not sure what we are going to do! He needs to be drinking white grape juice, pedialyte and water only for 24 hours before the scope that is 1.5 weeks away and at this point will not touch any of it. Any suggestions?
