Rock n' Play! It's perfectly angled and has (breathable) side support - awesome for babies who love to be held/hate to be swaddled.
DS hated lying flat on his back and would startle himself awake all night that way.

@travelgirl1: Oh now I come back to see your thread here! Definitely swaddling! What is the nurse talking about?? No wonder your baby isn't sleeping in the basket! For "hunger cues", come on, he will cry if he's hungry! If you are not sure if he was hungry then free his arms then!

Definitely go get the "Happiest Baby On The Block" dvd - it explains why swaddling and white noise works - because it imitates the womb where he was used to.

We use the halo sleepsack with the swaddling "wings" so I think you have the option to just swaddle his arms and his legs is more "free". I hope that resolves your hip dysplasia concerns?

http://www.amazon.com/HALO-SleepSack-Micro-Fleece-Swaddle-Small/dp/B001D4951C

Good luck! Now go swaddle your baby and get some sleep yourself ! ;)

@travelgirl1: The Halo swaddle sack leaves lots of room for leg movement. You can sew up the arm holes if, like my LO, she keeps working them out. The Miracle Blanket would leave room for legs at that age. You can also swaddle with a blanket, but leave lots of wiggle room for legs.

definitely swaddling. the velcro ones from summer infant keeps their legs pretty loose. you could also try putting a warmed sock full of rice beside her so she thinks it's you.

Paci, white noise, swaddling and maybe she needs a recline? My DD hated lying flat in the Moses basket. She liked the rock-n-play!

@littlek: I am battling to introduce a soother but DH is against it. I think it would really help though.

I wondered about swaddling but our nurse said not to because then she couldn't use her hands to give hunger cues... Also she has suspected hip dysplasia so we're trying not to restrict her leg movement.... It's driving DH mad but I really don't know how to fix it!

Have you tried a pacifier? That sometimes helps as well.

I second swaddling. The Miracle Blanket lived up to it's name, for sure. Also, maybe she likes a bit of an incline. Could you life one end of the basket just a little? Or let her sleep in a Nap Nanny/bouncer/swing/Rock n' Play?

At that age, swaddling is very helpful. I usually waited till LO was drowsy and then I would put in his newborn napper to sleep.

Swaddling worked wonders for us...do you do that? My LO could break out if I did just one swaddle so I had to double swaddle and he started sleeping so well...starting around 2 weeks. He wouldn't let me put him down before I started the double swaddle!

I think she's only properly slept in there twice on a night and that was when we introduced white noise. Before and since then, she'll only settle if she's on my chest. Any tips? she's only three weeks, so don't want to be too harsh on her but this mama needs some sleep!
