I don't remember my LO having a bedtime at 8 weeks because we were in the midst of colic at that age. Even now at 5 months, we're still struggling to get him to sleep before 10pm. We start the routine at 8:30-9pm. He gets a good block of sleep from 10:30-almost 2am, then two smaller blocks after feedings.

My LO's bedtime was between 9-10pm at that age - it would backfire if we put him to sleep before then and he would wake up at 11. He slowly started to go to bed earlier and earlier but it took several months! I really think they just do it on their own eventually.

we had such a hard time moving her bedtime up too. everyone said to move the routine up, but i didn't really understand what that meant! i mean i did, but she wasn't naturally tired until 10pm so it didn't matter about moving the routine up for us. anyway, like @tidybee, there was just one night when she got tired at 8:45 so we moved it up then. and then a week later, she got tired at 8pm. so it kinda happened naturally. it was around 10 weeks that we were able to do that.

When my LO was around that age his bedtime was still 9 pm. As he got older we slowly adjusted it 15 minutes earlier.

hmmm, I've always heard the suggestion that @Bao: offered. We were putting LO down around 10 but she was so wiped around 7 that we moved her bed time up one day and it stuck. Maybe try to keep him awake after his second to last feed and then start his bedtime routine around when he would normally fall asleep after that feeding.

I don't think M started sleeping earlier until she was older.. at 8 weeks her sleep time was 8:30-9 I think. She slept 6 hour stretches by then too.

Could you adjust it by just 10 minutes every night until you get to a time you are happy with?

DS goes down at 10ish and usually sleeps 2 - 5 or 6 hour stretches. Every time we've tired to put him down at 7 or 8, he falls asleep for 30 min or so and then starts fussing and waking up and crying! We've tried topping him off with a bottle, our usual nighttime ritual, etc.

What works for you?

(tonight!)
