@Foodnerd81: DH will be home with LO next week so he's going to try putting BM in her straw cup to see if she'll drink it that way. Hopefully it works!

@lawbee11: have you ever given her BM in a straw cup? You could at least see if it's the cup or the water that she doesn't like.

C loves drinking from her straw cup, but at least a third if t comes back out of her mouth and dribbles down her chin. When she drinks from an open cup she gets too excited and drinks too fast and gags and sputters on the water.

Eta: alternately have you tried water in a bottle? Or is that a bad idea?

Dd hated water until she mastered the straw cup ... We've had luck with the zoli cups. She still doesn't drink a ton but definitely more than she did a month ago.

DH started DS on a straw by capping the end of his straw and giving DS dribbles of his water that way. They laughed and played like it was a big game. From there, he got DS to drink out of his straw. That's when the straw cup seemed to start clicking for DS. He really didn't like water much until about a month ago!

@lawbee11: I'm not sure about the water issue, but My LO *just* finally mastered the straw cup this past week. Before then, no dice, she would just chew. She got the sippy down maybe a month ago? But we and daycare had been working on that since she was 6 months old so she definitely didn't pick it up quickly.

K won't drink with meals- only at other points during the day. She loves her Munchkin straw cup (Target), but also likes using a straw from a regular cup.
If M is still BFing a lot- I wouldn't worry too much about it!

@loveisstrange: @locavore_mama: She does like it when I let her take sips from my cup, but I think it'll be awhile before she can use an open cup on her own and she's not getting a meaningful amount in just the few sips that I'm giving her.

If she's not constipated and still nurses frequently then I'm sure she's fine and will pick it up in her own time. For months we kept offering LO water with meals and she would, like you say, try it and look disgusted, or just push the sippy away. Now, for the most part, she will drink 3-4oz with a meal but there are still lots of days when she will barely touch it. I figure she's ok though because she still has a good amount of formula per day.

We started adding a little bit (like, few drops) of a super concentrated juice. Just enough to flavor it. She asks for water specifically now and will pick it over juice.

Hmmm... Is she interested in your cups?

I know we started our daughter on water when we would be at restaurants and we would use the straw from our cup as a dropper to drop water into her mouth. She thought it was fun because she was getting it out of our cup.

LO is 11 months and she is not a fan of water. She actually has yet to master the sippy or straw cup either (she mostly just chews on them). I got one of those Playtex straw cups that you squeeze and the liquid comes out of the straw, but whenever the water goes into her mouth she gives me a disgusted look and acts like I'm trying to poison her.

I've tried iced water, room temp water, water with a little grape juice added--she hates it all. She's EBF and still nurses a lot, doesn't have issues with constipation, etc. so I'm not terribly concerned. But I am not planning to BF for much longer (at least not during the day), so I'd really like it if she started to drink more water!

Has anyone else's LO not been a fan?
